  1. The original American tan label sounds amazing. And you can usually find it reasonably cheap. It's the first Bowie record where the U.S. issue is as good or better as the UK. The 2010 (?) vinyl that was in the box set actually sounds very similar, so if they use that identical mastering for this new box, that'll be worth picking up for $20 when the inevitable individual releases drop.
  2. It's "unreleased" only in that particular configuration and running order. Four of the songs are on Young Americans already. The other three have been reissued several times as bonus tracks... in the 1991 Rykodisc version and the 2007 special edition, among others. You can track down the 1991 Ryko on vinyl if you really need them on wax, but none of those three songs (the remake of "John," "Who Can I Be Now," and "It's Gonna Be Me") are particularly memorable. Basically The Gouster is Young Americans minus two of its best songs (Fame and Win) and one of its worst (Across The Universe). And, um, Fascination. With a picture from the archives used as the "original cover" to make people think this was a proper album, when really it was just a tentative running order when Bowie was in the studio still writing more songs.
  3. The Berlin trilogy is obviously gonna get its own set after this. They should probably add Scary Monsters, the last really classic Bowie record. But they won't... and you'll be stuck buying a box set with that, Let's Dance, Tonight, and Never Let Me Down.
  4. Feels like the MOV is still gonna be the definitive version of this on vinyl. I mean, I love Pearl Jam, and I'm cautiously optimistic about the new CB reissues for No Code and Yield, but the Ten vinyl reissue just sounded like garbage. All the dynamics compressed right out of it. The OP Ten is night-and-day better. So I don't see this new BOB remix on vinyl being anything different.
  5. Not sure what people are complaining about. The red splatter vinyl looks fantastic... Maybe not like the mock-up, but very cool regardless. The white splatter could've been done better (probably should've made it blue splatter so the records match the artwork) but still, these are #firstworldproblems. More importantly, the vinyl is MILES better than the CD. We're talking audiophile 90s vinyl (which rarely happens), right up there with the 45 RPM reissue of August & Everything After. Goes to show what an AAA transfer plus Chris Bellman will do for your record. Wish more bands would care this much about sound quality.
  6. As soon as Radiohead fans accept the fact that all Radiohead fans have a different favorite Radiohead album, we can stop the bickering and make the world a better place.... HA! JK! It's the Internet! What else we gonna do?!?
  7. Still waiting to finally catch Hard To Imagine at a show. Although I got Footsteps, Chloe/Crown, and all of Vs. on this last swing, so can't complain too much.
  8. Except it kinda does. Put it in the album in alphabetical order with the rest (after Present Tense, before Tinker Tailor...). It flows pretty nicely.
  9. And in fairness, Jack White is this other "huge champion of vinyl"... who presses all the Third Man stuff at United.
  10. Honestly, I agree with most of this post. The OP of Ten blows away the new reissue, which shouldn't EVER happen if a band of PJ's stature actually cares about the quality of their vinyl pressings. The last few releases (Backspacer, LB) haven't been great from an audio standpoint. I'm still hunting an OP of Vs. for a cheap price, rather than wasting $$ on what I know from countless sources is a bad reissue. It is a shame that the one band championing vinyl during the dark days of the 90's doesn't seem to care about quality now that we're in a resurgence. To offer a more accurate counterpoint than DMB (who actually put out BTCS in 1998, definitely a widespread vinyl release for the time).... Nirvana's catalog on ORG sounds pretty fantastic. And those were recent reissues... But all-analog and done with care. On the flipside, Soundgarden's reissues haven't been anything to write home about. Alice In Chains is all MOV, with mixed results. The Black Crowes reissues (which coincide with the same era of PJ reissues) missed the boat too. Pearl Jam isn't the only band putting out half-assed reissues... But they seem like the one that SHOULD care more. I would love to see an analog specialty label get a crack at PJ's back catalog. I'm fine with paying $30 for a record with top-notch sound, versus $20 for another reissue that sounds like the CD on vinyl. But I don't see it happening anytime soon.
  11. You need to own more records. I had the OG Yield... Nothing special. The OPs of Ten and Vitalogy are much better... Plus there's a ton of reissues and originals from other bands that kill it for SQ as well. 1997 wasn't a great time for new vinyl.
  12. Still waiting for that next Tool album. And the official vinyl for the last Tool album.
  13. For all the BS that sometimes crops up in some (many?) threads, VC is absolutely the best for tracking down those elusive pre-orders. Just grabbed the white vinyl from Bullmoose. Thanks again!
  14. As for the label... I know your own press release is supposed to be "glowing," but that said: I really love Kevin Gray's work. He's one of the best mastering engineers working now. If he can actually get his hands on original analog master tapes, and do true AAA cuts, then these reissues would be well worth the money. (Or to put it another way: The Analogue Productions reissue of August & Everything After is a 2XLP 45RPM set for $50... which is an insane price. Until you listen to it. Then it feels like a bargain. Then you wish ALL your favorite records could sound that good. As others have mentioned, there are endless possibilities: Gin Blossoms, Toad, Hole, The Sundays.... My big concern is that IR probably can't convince most big bands to turn over their rights, or undo the damage the bands have already done to their own legacy on vinyl. All-analog reissues of the 90's Pearl Jam records would be WAY better than the crap reissues the band gave us a few years ago. The Dave Matthews reissues were better but still digital. Third Eye Blind would be amazing if done right, but Jenkins wants to keep all that money for himself. I don't see Beck turning over his rights either. And Tool would be the Holy Grail but NO WAY would those guys actually let their fans own their records on vinyl, in amazing SQ, for a REASONABLE PRICE.....
  15. I loved it back in the day and even interviewed Art for a magazine (SPOILER: He's kinda douchy).... But "all time"?? You need to listen to more rock albums.
  16. Get the Light In The Attic reissue of D'Angelo's Voodoo if you still can. Much better SQ than this new RTC.
  17. Yeah but the Plain version literally sounded like the CD with extra pops & ticks. You can't listen to artwork. Hopefully Island figured out how to master a record as Blue Guitar needs a decent press.
  18. Thanks for the tips. I guess I can be patient a while longer... It just sucks that we're coming up on a week and no one at TC has responded back yet. I didn't bother listening to the whole album once I determined the problem was across all four sides. I want to spin it but I want it to sound GOOD too...
  19. Yep. Again... I've played about 20 different records since getting Deja last week. All of them play perfectly. It's clearly a weird pressing defect. I'm assuming it's not very widespread or more folks would've mentioned it.
  20. I can't read all 172 pages so apologies if this has come up already.... My copy from MerchDirect was flat and clean, and the mastering is solid, BUT... There's a ton of surface noise, but only in the left channel. And it persists across the ENTIRE SIDE. Of BOTH RECORDS. Anytime the volume drops to almost nothing, you can hear it. It's such a bizarre defect that I was afraid my cartridge might be messed up, but nope... Played a bunch of other records immediately afterwards and they all sound fine. I emailed Triple Crown 5 days ago... Still waiting for a response. Any idea how bad their customer service is? Seeing how they sent out a bunch of packages with two of the same record, they must be aware they have QC issues. But because of their weird policy to "artificially limit" copies in the wild, I'm wondering if they're gonna actually send me a replacement or just tell me to send it back for a refund. (I'd much rather have a copy that plays cleanly rather than get my $27 and have to hunt this down all over again.) Thoughts? A better customer service email??
  21. As fun as it was to get this same email "update" 22 times today... Unsubscribing. Have fun fucking or not fucking, I guess.
  22. Eh, the original Rhinos sound pretty good. I snagged an original Factory Closer so that's why I dumped my Rhino, but I did an A/B comparison beforehand and the difference was minor. If the Factory had been noisy I might've sold that one instead. I'm excited to get Substance though. I have an original Love Will Tear Us Apart 12" (just got lucky finding that one) but it's nearly impossible to find ALL those songs in their original 12" format... Or a clean original of Substance, for that matter. Plus after seeing Peter Hook I'm on a bit of a JD kick again...
  23. Including the guy who started it... $36K in tax-free dollars. No laws broken, no legal recourse. He's probably already been swooped up by Wall Street. "If you could convince hipsters to drop $36,000 on shitty Dan Fogelberg records, imagine what you could sell to rich clients who want to update their portfolios..."
