aflycon
Any thoughts on the soundtrack album from Dr. Dre? I'm loving it. I think he did a great job of capturing a late 80s/early 90s vibe, as much as I hate to use that word.
Family Friendly Rap God
Sonically = 10 Lyrically (Dre) =

dantheriver
Im so frustrated i cant hear this anywhere. I'm sure there are a hundred places to download it by now if you don't have access to Apple Radio.
morfiend
I'm not a huge rap guy but I did love late 80s and early 90's rap when I was in my early teens. With that said, my wife downloaded Compton and we gave it a listen yesterday. I was expecting more of a retro 90's vibe but the album sounded like a very slick sounding modern rap album to me. I also felt Dre wasn't on the album enough but the last track with him sounded awesome. I can't say if I like it or not at this point since I wasn't giving it my full attention at the time. jerseydave77
I am going to an advance screening Monday. I know Dre's beating of Dee isn't in there so maybe they end after the split but before the death of Eazy. We will see.
jhulud
Ummm. Yeah. That Compton album is whack. Even the track with Ice Cube feels forced. Complete letdown overall. ditc586
cambionic
Compton can't touch 2001. Hell, most hiphop records can't touch 2001.
Endserenading
I really loved the movie. Ice Cube's son was great. First thing i did when i woke up was finally scooped up the album on LP.
aflycon
I was very satisfied as well. There's only so much you can do to dramatize rappers' contract disputes, and I think Gray did a good job of it. However, I was disappointed by the redaction of Dre's (multiple) assault charges, the absence of any mention of "Real Muthaphukkin Gs," which made it appear that the Chronic was the end-all be-all of the NWA beef, and the fact that Arabian Prince wasn't in the fucking movie at all. He wasn't part of the group for long but he was a founding member so that was weird.

The lack of Dee Barnes in a 2.5 hour movie taints it's legitimacy as a true story. There was plenty of time for the beef during the groups split BUT nothing about Dre brutally beating a female journalist and laughing about it? They made him this innocent victim of Jerry Heller and Eazy E that rose to be a hero who walks away from Suge with a glance back "Aftermath" - but all the while he was the shittiest dude of the bunch and least worthy of hero status. I was so damn disappointed that an otherwise solid film dropped the ball so far but you know, if the flawed hero is the producer I guess you drop the flaws. konk
Did they show him in World Class Wreckin' Cru like in the Eazy E video?

But what do you expect when Cube and Dre were executive producers? Same complaints I had about Biggie's movie. Way too sanitized
Bladewillisisdead
Lol at producing your own biopic. That's some bullshit. Not gonna bother with this vanity project garbage.
aflycon
Did they show him in World Class Wreckin' Cru like in the Eazy E video? Yep, there is a scene of Dre and Yella performing at Lonzo's club in their Wreckin' Cru getups. And it is just as ridiculous as the music video. OrangeJoe
Saw this tonight, really good. I agree that Dre shouldn't have come out looking as good as he did, but I also think Dee Barnes did not need to be in the movie. You guys are looking for a Dr Dre documentary, this is a 2.5 hour movie. Can only do so much.
morfiend
I enjoyed the movie as well although it was basically the Easy E, Dre and Cube show while mostly ignoring the other members.
