recordhound1002
Never smoke in your home, Records Catch second hand stench.
mcpherson123
I've got a few records that clearly came from smoke heavy home. Having had them for a few years, I've noticed the scent dissipating. I'm sure it won't be long before the smell is gone. But still, a couple of years is a while. BobbyHill
I've heard that draping smokey smelling clothes over a bowl of vinegar removes the smell, I wouldn't suggest dipping your records in vinegar though.
idreamofpunk
Congrats on kicking the habit. Now if only I could kick my addiction to delicious edibles.

mxv
It sucks when I get a record that stinks like an ashtray cuz it came from a dirty smoker's house. That smell never totally goes away either. I have yet to try and febreeze a record sleeve but I've been tempted!
idreamofpunk
You won't. Stop now. Trying to kick the habit? I stopped before I even thought about trying. I was not thinking about trying to quit eating delicious stuff before it was cool to not think about trying to quit eating deliciousness in physical form. californiaflow
Congrats, OP! Glad to see yet another person kick the habit. Sucks that they smell though! And idreamofpunk, you like delicious treats? I work in a premier bakery now. Trade you cookies/scones/breads for records? haha

almightyseancore
dude, i quit about 2 years ago, so good job, but i also feel sorry for you. after quitting the smell of cigarettes became one of my least favorite smells ever, and in large amounts can be completely nauseating. smelling that smell in my records would bum me out. my wife still smokes but not inside, so my records are safe. plus everything in my record collection (aside from a few poor conditioned classic rock pieces) are all sealed in 12" bags, and kept behind the closed doors of my record cabinet. imaminorthreat
Books get really fucked up by cigarette smoke as well. I bought a relatively pricey first edition from someone in Ireland and was pissed when it showed up with yellow pages.... it legitimately stank up my room for a while. Smoking sucks, cheers to quitting.
rocknroll76
I put a reeking record sleeve in a box with a dozen dryer sheets and a few days later the smell of smoke was pretty much gone.
adamlikesmusic
That sucks. I buy a lot of used books, and you can definitely tell when the previous owner was a smoker.
controlthebleeding
i bought about 200 records from a guy who's wife smoked. they've been together 20 years and the records smelled so bad. but luckily he kept them in polysleeves. i just replaced them and aired out the records for a month. so i lucked out. i smoke, but not inside so i don't have to worry about records. tylerrr
It sucks when I get a record that stinks like an ashtray cuz it came from a dirty smoker's house. That smell never totally goes away either. I have yet to try and febreeze a record sleeve but I've been tempted! You should just try sticking some dryer sheets in there.
