jerseydave77
Curious if anyone feels strongly about a record from this past year that they feel didn't get enough love and discussion. Personally, I think the Banquets "Top Button..." and Wavelets "Athletics" should be getting a lot more hype than they have. Share yours, I'm looking for some new stuff to buy. Eclipsical
I loved a ton of 2011 releases, but as far as overlooked goes: White Arms of Athena - Astrodrama (prog metal) http://eclipsicalrecords.storenvy.com/products/176515-white-arms-of-athena-astrodrama-lp VYGR - Hyperlseep (heavy, spacey prog metal) http://eclipsicalrecords.storenvy.com/products/202803-vygr-hypersleep-2xlp Beware of Safety - Leaves/Scars (poignant post-rock) ...and more I'm not recalling right now. 2011 was a great year. ozfacter
id have to agree with a couple of those... banquets - Top Button, Bottom Shelf restorations - s/t luther - siblings and sevens but also... mischief brew - the stone operation jeff rowe - New Winter, New England landmines - Commerce And Marx to name a few. jerseydave77
Beware of Safety - Leaves/Scars (poignant post-rock) Agreed here. BOS seems to get very little credit. I think Dogs was a better album but Leaves/Scars is excellent.

ludesmaaan
Definitely agree w/ the dude who mentioned Landmines - that record is really, really, really good. I would also say Static Radio NJ, Noise By Numbers, Halfway To Hell Club, One Win Choice, The Slow Death & Like Wolves. Every one of those bands released great LP's in 2011. I also feel like Samiam have kind of been written off by a lot of people but "Trips" is seriously (in my opinion) their best work to date. I can't recommend that album enough. Derek™
H O U R V A R I Two track, 21 minute debut EP; surprisingly phenomenal. This came out of nowhere. I've never paid for a digital download... but after seeing no option to grab a CD or LP, I felt obligated to do so. It's... post-hardcore. Post-rock. Post-metal. Post-whatever. Vocals are reminiscent of the newer Moving Mountains material. [A nice mix of coarse and rough stuff.] Some great soundscapes and thunderous builds for post-rock fans. There's even a bit of black (but not too black) metal elements that peek through here and there. (Think Deafheaven.) In short, do yourself a favor and at least visit their Bandcamp. Easily one of my last-second favorites of 2011.
