[PO] Deafheaven // Sunbather – 10 Year Remaster

Recommended Posts

Maybe he should consider growing his hair out and dressing more casually, because apparently in some people's minds dressing too neatly=Hitler youth. Reminds me of when I shave my head and people say I look like a skinhead or a cancer patient. People look too far and stretch too low to put others below them based on looks.

Ha. George definitely swings his arms to the music. He has a fixation on using his arms as a maestro, trying to conduct the composition whenever he doesn't have vocal parts. That, and rubbing his palms on his face dramatically. That's just how he performs. Definitely no nazi. But. He does seem to be an enormous sex hound. He had women rubbing his crotch in front row and unbuttoning his signature shirt and during the encore the Roadie picked out a young woman from the crowd and brought her backstage and she stood impatiently to the side staring at George throughout the entirety of the last song. When it was over he abruptly walked off with her and took the stairs to the private upstairs band lounge. Judging from his instagram feed and whatnot I'd venture to guess he does this in every city.

The band was phenomena lol but me and my friend both agree we've never seen a musician so sexually focused.

Well that sounds fucked up. Really fuckin' douchey. Seeing them live two times in August, hope to enjoy the music without any of the musicians ruining it for me by being stupid people.

I mean, they still performed well. And George is so active on stage that those brief exchanges with drunk women in front row didn't distract TOO much from the show lol. I did have a really good time, and George gave (Platonic attention to the male fans as well (he grabbed me by he hair, pulled me to his mouth dropped the mic and scrame in my ear once. I saw him grab another guy who was singing along playfully by the throat and scrane along with him)

I really just get the vibe, from the thematic content of sunbather, that he's fulfilling all his youthful fantasies : traveling the world with eyes on him being able to have one night stands with beautiful women from all over different countries. I'm not trying to accuse him of being a bad guy or trying to imply music isn't his priority. I just think its kinda obvious from the thematic content that he's spent much of his life focused on classism and now he's trying to feel as though he's breached that upper class.

But that's just my perception. And I definitely still enjoy his musical career as well as their performance.

I get what you're saying, but I just can't stand any of all that hard rockin' groupie lovin' rock'n'roll star douchebag behaviour. These things really gross me out. Def will be able to enjoy their performance though, gonna keep my eyes on that nerdy looking guitarist and appreciate his mad skills.

Anonymous said: When Deafheaven came to my town a few months ago, George made straight up Hitler salutes throughout their whole set, and Hate Forest, the band whose shirt they wore, isn't "kind of nationalist," they're Nazis who advocate killing all non-whites. Speaking as a mixed race Jew, I'd like to put a bomb under Deafheaven's van and blow them all to Hell. Fuck all Nazis, even if they happen to be good musicians.

that sounds fucked up. i love drudkh (apparently has a member of hate forest) but the internet isn’t drawing up a lot of info on hate forest being an NSBM band so far. not denying your claim or anything. just trying to look up shit i don’t know about. i would also like to know more this whole “george from deafheaven did hitler salutes” while they played thing. never heard of that happening. can’t imagine a band with an actual open white supremacist member being as popular as deafheaven are. again, not denying your claims or anything.

(only posting for the sake of conversation, i have no idea if any of this is accurate)

Well, Roman Saenko (both leader in Drudkh and Hate Forest) isn't far away from NS bands in East Europe ; if it's not present in Drudkh, it's more obvious in Hate Forest lyrics/albums. Lots of references to Nietzche, slavic legends, purity, strenght, all that stuff.

Plus the fact Hate Forest played in many little shows like Kolovrat fest, which the name comes from this symbol. How surprising uh ?.

Now, some will argue about "nationalism isn't the same thing as national-socialism", "it's only lyrics", "freedom of speech", etc etc ; Saenko himself told many times he wasn't a part of the NSBM community.

Personally I love Drudkh - the other stuff much less, Drudkh really brings something more into its music - but I'm not the singer of a band who tours all around the world since the massive success of his last album, even in some mainstream medias.

So, those reactions are kinda expected when you wear a shirt from these bands and you play in front of people who don't know shit about the BM scene.

i first saw them about two years ago on that tour with russian circles. i really enjoyed their stage presence and was pretty blown away by the whole thing. i think one of whirr's guitarists was touring with them at that time (it wasn't nick). whoever was drumming for them at the time thanked me for picking up their record after the show and made it seem like the band wasn't being really received well by the audiences at each show during that time. george was kind of a dickbag and seemed completely disinterested in communicating with anyone. for what its worth, i wasn't trying to start a conversation, i was just asking questions about the merch.

i saw them again, for the a second time, a few nights ago, and got a totally different vibe. i thought george's theatrical (??) movements and hand motions were kinda lame. their performance reminded of larger arena bands who do the same exact stuff every night as if it were all scripted. to be fair, they have been touring non stop for a year straight, so that could explain why most of them looked like they were just going through the motions. though the posts above about george feeling like he's "higher class" and pursuing sexual fantasies around the world are nothing but pure speculation, i would find him even more lame if its true.

aside from all of that, they played the new song and i thought it sounded pretty awesome.

They played the new song today at Pitchfork and George said that it "comes out next week." Not sure what he meant by that, but they were terrific and very well received.

i caught them at the bottom lounge on friday. he told that audience "next month." hopefully something changed and we'll get it sooner.
