Stoner/ Doom Metal Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

this is the best goddamn thread on these boards.

are there labels like STB and Riding Easy that pump out Thrash specifically??? i can google but too lazy.

also anyone going to buy the Crown of Thornz from the STB Hardcore?

I'd be curious about a "boutique" thrash label. I picture thrash dudes as less likely to shell out $30 for an album. Doom dudes seem more into the deluxe packaging, small run thing. I'm probably wrong.

Once we decide we are done with a letter i can compile the reccommendations on the first page if that makes the most sense. I dont think we need to vote just divide it into essential and check this out.

That would make the most sense I think. I already fooled around a bit and thought it would be cool to equip every entry with some basic info and direct links to listen to them.

something like this:

Abstracter. Wound Empire | Vendetta Records | Oakland, CA | 2015 || Doom, Sludge, Black Metal, Crust

BC: https://abstracter.bandcamp.com/album/wound-empire

Spotify: https://play.spotify.com/album/3Kf5WUNqIl0id84LYJVurF

Acid Witch. Stoned | Hells Headbangers | Detroit, MI | 2011 || Psychedelic Doom, Death Metal

BC: https://hellsheadbangers.bandcamp.com/album/stoned

Spotify: https://play.spotify.com/album/31DbYsp8hL2iHGheQrJtxZ

Amenra. Mass IIII, Mass V | Hypertension, Neurot Recordings | Belgium | 2008, 2012 || Doom, Sludge, Post-Metal

Mass IIII:

Mass V:

Not forgotten, they are quoted on my list, but not yet embedded, because I wanted to start with those votes that mentioned band + album in order to be able to give better info and direct links to check them out.

Why make the list without including everyone's suggestions?

It's just a work-in-progress draft, I didn't mean to exclude any suggestions. It's meant as a proposal as to how we could go about this. If the consensus goes in the direction of collecting artists without album suggestions, that's totally cool.

This is why I hate how popular this type of music is nowadays. Non-pot smokers listening to stoner rock over complicating things. You used to be able to go to shows, do drugs and just lie on the ground in front of the stage. Too many people at shows to do that any more. Selfie sticks at EHG shows! Kill me.

Not sure if you were referring to anyone in particular from this thread, but i've been listening to heavy music since the mid-80's and stoner rock since the early 90's and I am far from what your post described.. I've been to hundreds of shows and I don't recall seeing to much of what you described especially people lying on the floor at a show. I've seen shows where there was 6 people in the crowd and when I left the show I felt like my ears were bleeding.I much rather see a show at a small venue or bar than one of those huge arenas, festivals or even a venue that holds over 500 people.  Part of this bands from each letter is to bring awareness to bands that some of us have not heard of. Sure, we all know Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Baroness, Eyehategod and so forth, but honestly how many of the bands from letter A that I mentioned has anyone heard of? I like doing these kind of lists and i don't have any problem with how Eliminator is doing it. I'll make a point next time I list bands to add albums to make things easier for everyone.

Haha, I seriously hope this was a joke

This...is becoming too much of a thing. I'm out.

Another thing people new to this thread can do is just read through the thread. We've all shared many suggestions throughout the pages. This is just sounding like too much of a project for those of us who have been actively contributing to the thread. But if other people wanna do it, go for it. Not trying to rain on the parade.

Truth. Anyone that wants to do it, feel free. I'm just personally out.
