Kinda price, but I offered the dude $60 for the Graveface variant. That cover is sick.

aaaaaaand they're gone. That was fast.

Should have pulled the trigger at $80 for the Graveface pressing, but I've spent wayyyyy too much money lately. Damnit.

I hope they use that cover for the repress!

So, John over at Spartan Records got an overage of the "Hallie Rose" variant of Shy, Low's "Hiraeth" record, so if you didn't get a chance to grab this sick-looking variant.... now you can! A few copies left, I grabbed one.

Thanks man, grabbed one!

Fuck yeah! I hope it sounds better than the Snowdon Lilly. Maybe it's just the mastering was shitty for the vinyl pressing, but mine sounds pretty flat. The overdriven section of "Nostos" at the beginning is just a giant muddy mess.

The rest of the clean sections of that song, especially the bass groove middle section, and the rest of the "chill" songs sound BEAUTIFUL. But the overdriven stuff kinda sounds like ass. :\

Also, the hi-hats sound... shitty. I really wish they used a different set, or EQed them differently. Oh well, the music still rules.

Gumbi, you know too much. It's a curse. Like perfect pitch and all of its derivatives.

It is. Whenever I play the record I think "man I wish they used a different set of hi-hats" haha.

I don't get that vibe when I spin the CD though! The vinyl pressing just makes them so much more present and dimensional, they really sit independently in the mix, which is great.... if you use a nice-sounding set :D

Figured I would throw out some bands on here since I haven't done that in a while.

Some new, some old, some you might have heard of, some you might haven't heard of.

Happy listening.

Whale Fall // The Madrean // Instrumental / Post Rock / Soundscape | Los Angeles, CA

|| BC: https://whalefall.bandcamp.com/album/the-madrean

|| Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/3zCfqpNoi9xG6nPZtvb67N

* This band is pretty interesting. They incorporate brass horns, which is a risky move, but I think they pull it off well. They also change up their feel through out, so the album takes on different tones, but blends well as it does so.

Magma Waves // Mitsuki, Hida, 1579 // Instrumental / Post Rock / Post Metal | Germany

|| BC: https://magmawaves.bandcamp.com/album/mitsuki-hida-1579

* Tobias Stieler of Kokomo mixed and mastered these songs, so you know they sound good. Also, Ansgar Koenig of Kokomo is on guitar.

a3278081188_16.jpg

Sleeping Bear // Parinae // Instrumental / Post Rock / Post Metal / Atmospheric | Kiev, Ukraine

|| BC: https://sbear.bandcamp.com/

* Getting a very strong God Is An Astronaut vibe on this at times, mixed in with some post metal influences. Really fun listen.

This confirms my current opinion on post-rock again: there are too many post-something bands out there doing the same thing...

So?  You can pretty much say that about any genre.  How many bands actually push through boundaries and advance the genres they are accompanied with?  Not many.  But I like the "post-rock" sound.  I don't like all bands, but the more there are, the better chance of me finding something that clicks.  That was ultimately the point of this thread.  Everyone post bands they have been checking out, and although we won't all like everything, hopefully something will click with someone.

I don't disagree with your statement, but I also don't have a problem with that issue you bring up.

I genuinely forget, have you suggested any bands we should all check out?  I can't remember and don't feel like weeding through 93 pages of stuff.  But since you say everything being suggested is pretty stale, who should we check out?

nice! that album is almost impossible to find reasonably priced

It is indeed, although both Laughing Stock and Mark Hollis' self titled album have been reissued a mere five years ago. This new repress is supposed to be identical to the '11 one, which is truly breathtaking. Definitely one of the best sounding records I have.
