VC's Best of the Year 2013 List (you vote!)

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately for me, my top three were...

Grandview - Everything Between Paint and a Wall

Gatherer - Caught Between A Rock and a Sad Place

Young Lions - Burn

...and I don't think they'd win any community best of lists haha.

New Music:

Front Bottoms "Talon..." (Overall #1)

Restorations "LP2" (Overall #2)

Gatherer "Between..." (majorly overlooked HC album)

Foxing "The Albatross" (I love the sound and feel the passion in this one. Dig it)

Coasta "Zunzal" (Great Teaser - want more)

The National "Trouble..." (They can do no wrong apparently)

Old Grey "An Autobiography"

I love this guy for knowing what this album is

So... Astray & Clumsy - represses and YAFMO & WGYD - reissues?

What about first time presses? like, an album that has been out on CD for 10 years that finally got vinyl treatment, is that only a "press" and not a repress and reissue? all these rules...

Sticking to the rules, 1 being the best:

1. Samiam - You Are Freaking Me Out

2. Propagandhi - How To Clean Everything

3. Samiam - Whatever's Got You Down.

Stuff that were represses/first-time-presses that were awesome:

Samiam - Astray

Samiam - Clumsy

Day At The Fair - Rocking Chair Years

The Knife - The Knife

Set Your Goals - Mutiny!

Catch 22 - Keasbey Nights

Streetlight Manifesto - Keasbey Nights

Streetlight Manifesto - Somewhere In The Between

Are we limited to albums, or can we also vote on best / worst threads of 2013? Maybe best / worst newcomers of 2013?

The possibilities are pretty open on this one.

I always thought the Thread of the Year concept was funny because we never actually had a Thread of the Year, but calling members out as 'the worst' is kinda crappy. We're all awful haha.

Very true. It was (mostly) in jest - all of those ideas, actually - but it would be fun to focus on the most noteworthy and positive threads and members. Most generous, most witty, most consistently pleasant, and so on.

And so many different threads have delivered this year. It'd be a shame to not recognize them.

You're talking about Rad and the Desensitizer thread right?

Guest Justin Maheiny

My favorite reissues of this year were Power of Zeus' The Gospel According to Zeus, which I randomly stumbled across after being unwilling to pay $150+ for years for which made it even better and the double clear vinyl release of Kraftwerk live in 1971. It still boggles my mind how heavy they were before going electronic.

Dig it post-rock fans.
