I think its less sneaky and more just their approval cycle doesn't always match up with when you decide to pay.  For instance the vault is always announced in the 3rd month of a cycle, you could always sign up in one of the first 2 months and your payment would always be before the announcement.  IMO its best to sign up the last day possible to have as much time as possible to wait for the next announcement.

I can't believe some of the advice being doled out regarding "customer service." You don't need to take your listings down or rush out to ship something the next day just because it's Christmas. If someone demands that you ship immediately because they couldn't get their shit together in time to order something, fuck them.

Step up your customer service game people. Some buyers are still going to be dense, but a little communication goes a long way. If someone buys something a day before Christmas eve, it doesn't hurt to send a "hey, hope you're not expecting this by tomorrow... because if so, here are some options... (offer expedited shipping at a higher price, refund if the buyer prefers, or maybe the buyer says "no problem"" message. Or realize that people get bent easily this time of year and ship the damn thing out Christmas eve, or remove the listing.
 
It should be a mystery to NO ONE who has sold records during the pandemic that delays were likely to happen during the holidays. Serious sellers should also understand that buyer's get extra sensitive during holidays.
 
Been doing this for 10 years. Some buyers suck, but I'm telling you from experience that most of it can be mitigated through OPEN DIALOGUE and PRO-ACTIVE COMMUNICATION.

Sold mine recently for around $400.  These are getting way harder to find than I ever expected.

Not every town has a cool record store. Maybe this release is for the kid who picks it up in nowheresville USA and it changes his life.

Im hoping one day we get a limited hip hop drop where people dont complain about prices. Are you all really so surprised every time, even though the price is high...every time? Generally disliked by the most vitriolic man children on this forum. I have more positive trader feedback on here than the TC, and the negative feedback is a relic from 2016 when the site had up and down votes, because of one silly post I made.
 
I won't have my name slandered for no reason so here's what REALLY HAPPENED when I bought from this guy: 
 
I purchased two records from him that cost $200. He took my money and disappeared for well over a week and didn't respond to any of my messages. He finally responded, sent the records, and one of them was a Paramore 7" box set that I was REALLY looking forward to getting. I put a record on and it played completely distorted, despite looking fine. I played another 7" I owned to see if it was my turntable, and it played fine. I asked him to return it, he didn't respond, so I opened a dispute. He freaked out because it locked up his account. I returned the record and he sent me an angry message saying it played fine on his turntable.
 
He accused me of faking the video (???) -- I didn't try to get a discount, I wanted to return a record I was really looking forward to getting. His profile says "paramore, paramore, paramore" so clearly he's a big fan. The more likely scenario is that he had a second copy that was totally fine and this was the busted one prior to the replacement, rather than me buying something from him and returning it for no reason, wasting everyone's time and money.
 
BEWARE WHEN BUYING FROM THIS PERSON. I hope it goes well but my experience was atrocious. 

I know I'm in the minority but I really like Sonic Highways.  I think having the show go along with the songs really helped it latch on for me.  Went to the Nashville show at the Ryman for that tour and yeah completely bought in at that point.
