Preorder item, releases on August 26, 2022
Brandtson announce a limited edition reissue of their final album, Hello, Control, on August 26, 2022 via Steadfast Records.

The reissue features previously unreleased alternate mixes from album producer Ed Rose and marks the first time the 2006 album will be available on vinyl. Presented with all new artwork, expanded from the original concept and available on multiple vinyl variants.

Hello Control, a pivotal release and the closing chapter on over a decade of making music for the Cleveland quartet. The first album with longtime friend and collaborator Adam Boose joining on bass, and the fifth release with producer Ed Rose. From the dusty lull of album opener “A Thousand Years” a new Brandtson begins to emerge. Putting a ready for the floor sneer to the road worn hallmarks of their back catalog, and taking a decided step into pop territory on singles, “Nobody Dances Anymore” and “Earthquakes and Sharks”. The alternate Ed Rose mixes were curated from the bands archives and have been previously unreleased in any format.

Originally released by The Militia Group in 2006. The 2022 reissue of Hello, Control was mixed by Ed Rose, mastered by Adam Boose, and lacquer masters cut by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service.

Both Target and Amazon are having their Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale. I find that Target have a better selection of vinyl on sale than Amazon.

My god... it's their best album since The Suburbs, totally in love with it.
It's a shame my brown pressing cracks and pops all the way through, gonna get a black, a blue and picture disc pressing the coming days, hopefully one of those will sound good.

I’m totally digging this album. Hit me at the right place at the right time. I just got a new job, it’s Spring and the sun is shining, and this album is a celebration. Also pumped that I got the record on release day and my first full listen was n my turntable.

Glad to see the record get some love from early impressions here on VC.  Reception seems to be lukewarm at best just about everywhere else.  The biggest [most frequent] gripes I've read are around contrived lyrics – which aren't as bad as EN's worst ones, if you ask me – or how "boring" and "safe" the record sounds.  I don't think it's overly experimental but it definitely does enough right to warrant repeat listens.  I'm pretty happy with it.
There's also a small crowd that is (very ironically) whining about how the band is now tailored for anthemic, arena dad rock.  I imagine they're expecting the band to magically return to the same sound from 2004 and drop Funeral II.  We'll just ignore the fact that a good chunk of active Arcade Fire listeners have probably become dads in the last 18 years.

Not shipping related, but I will say I have been coming back to this album on more than a few occasions.
Really quite good I think and such a return to form after Palms which was half trash imo.

I'd be curious to know how including a book, or any extras, impacts profit margin. Getting books made is expensive. However, one of my favorite books from the last few years is the  "One Day When We Are Young: Mineral at 25" release, which was/is only $30 (but no licensing costs as the songs were new). It seems like the best way for a label or band to make money off a reissue would be to keep it as simple as possible?

I have read on another discussion board about people only wanting the book. So maybe if you buy this package you could sell the book and keep the record? However, based on the images of the design, it seems like it's all one complete package and the book and LP slide into the same sleeve.

Anyway, it does seem like they should have come up with a basic LP option with no book and no extras.

This is me as well. I saw them last week in Detroit and thought they sounded great, and enjoyed the setlist. I have now seen them six times since 2007, and while I mourn that there are some songs I'll never hear them play again, I am OK with. A friend went with me last week who doesn't really know Thrice, and I explained to him that the band played none of my top-5 favorite Thrice songs, but I I knew they wouldn't, and I was OK with it. My favorite part of the set was when they played "Buried in the Sun" and "Just Breathe" back-to-back, as those are my fav songs from each of the most recent two albums.

Really love this "surprise release." No singles or anything like that, just a few hour heads up that it was dropping at midnight. And in this age where vinyl production takes forever, I greatly prefer artists and labels waiting until they have the physical product in hand to begin sales, rather than having a pre-order like "vinyl ships in 2023."

I ordered the navy and white vinyl from Bandcamp, and have listened to the album through twice--enjoying it, but I need to dig into the lyrics.

SO MUCH. I can't begin to summarize. But I would say the last decade of Project 86 is illegitimate. Or at least it's not the same band. Project 86 would have made more sense with Randy, Steven, and Alex and another vocalist than it has been with Schwab continuing with other musicians.

Was a huge fan of this band and album at the time, and the album holds up, but honestly no chance I am buying this considering Andrew Schwab and all his crap in the last decade.

Right? Support those amazing cats and stick it to Schwab lmao.

Hell it's kind of shocking that for all the ridiculous shit Schwab got up for the "celebration" last year he DIDN'T already do a DBL vinyl.

I love love love that those dudes waited until they literally have the vinyl ready to go and just dropped it for sale. They started this a long time ago.

The fun part is that Andrew Schwab has no part in this vinyl issue whatsoever.
Long story short, I learned awhile back that licensing rights for vinyl don't really require any permission outside of an agreement with the publishing rights holders. It is more complicated than that (and infamously capitol EMI is apparently a nightmare to deal with for any and all T&N-releated reissues).

Randy, Alex, and Steven don't require Schwab's permission to do this. It is literally a separate project they spearheaded. Hilariously Schwab had no idea until it dropped today. He's telling people on Patreon "we will get to the bottom of this" and "this is bootleg." lmao.

Delicious KARMA imo. Last year's DBL "celebration" amounted to just Andrew, no og members, a ridiculous $250 per ticket covid distanced concert, a "sit down dinner with the band", and ofc the fabulous banning of Steven and Randy from the P86 facebook page for daring to criticize Schwab's shitshow. I'm really happy those three dudes are doing this.

Don't become a collector . Having 10 different albums is better than having 10 different versions of one album.

Don't feel the need to buy every release by an artist just to have if you don't really like the release.
