aopps42 got a reaction from Rip in A Lull
This has saved me a lot of money from cutting way back on blind buying
I agree with everything you said, and I tend to have listening patterns similar to yours in terms of surfing genres. I was really loving the psych revival that was occurring from late oughts until I guess a few years ago, but feels like that has sort of dissipated. I probably just need to spend more time in terms of discovering new/unfamiliar artists, but it’s been a real struggle of late it seems.

I just entered the 21st century recently and got a Spotify account/subscription. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I’m mad at myself for not doing so sooner. Since having my first kid I don’t get as much time to sit down and just listen to records anymore so most of my music listening is done driving to/from work everyday. It’s pretty life changing having literally everything available at your fingertips now. Since getting it I’ve checked out so many things I never would have before and also rediscovered stuff I had forgotten about.

Find a rabbit hole.
I had Vaporwave, I’m deep in vgm, old 60’s reggae is one. Cambodian psych rock has some compilations. It takes some digging. Light In The Attic is a great label for cultural traditional. I noticed I had no Smiths records. Surf rock?
There’s a lot of different holes to fall down so I hope you find one, sometimes it can re-invigorate your purpose.

I think we all go through this from time to time to an extent. I know I do. Sometimes it ends up with me breaking out some old stuff that I haven't listened to in a while, sometimes I find something new to love in an entirely new genre that I hadn't really looked into before. I was going through this for a little while and then recently I suddenly got way into reggae after never really listening to it in the past.

I’d like a copy but I have probably 25 Boris LP’s, I’ll manage without dropping $50 on this.

Unfortunately doesn't apply to pretty much all vinyl.

In a week and a half, I'll be launching a Kickstarter to fund the press of my third album on vinyl - a recreation of the entirety of "Sea Change" by Beck using only a Nintendo and a Gameboy. Previously, I've done "In the Aeroplane Over The Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel and "The Soft Bulletin" by The Flaming Lips, so I'm excited to be doing it again with an album in my personal top 5 of all time. I also liked the challenge of recreating such somber music with heavy lyrics in a genre typically associated with cheery, upbeat tracks. If you're a Beck fan and at least curious about chip-tunes (I know, I know...it's not for everyone), check it out and hit that green 'notify me on launch' button so you'll know when it goes live.

Oh lord if you think "ignorant" is an insult no wonder this whole thing that has nothing to do with you is triggering. Holy shit 😂

Yeah, yeah. I know we disagree on these sorts of things, we've been through it more than once.
Sorry I don't just post .gifs and fuck around with people anymore, though maybe that would be best at this point in this thread since all the pertinent info has been shared.
Haven't had a good ole fashioned shit-show thread lock in a while.

I'm not going to bother picking out the bits of this I want to respond to because in dark mode for whatever reason this is black text on black background and makes me want to throw my phone across the room.
I read it. I get their reasoning. Give them money and if you back the certain things you get a "gift." I know how kickstarter works.
BUT. Say you give them money to fight this and they lose the court case they're talking about to get their shit back. You're likely shit out of luck on both your original purchase and your backing. I hate when companies try to crowd source their own expenses when they should have likely known what was going on in the first place and gotten their inventory out of there.
I dig Topshelf, but this is a cascade of fuckups that could and should have been prevented and I think putting their customers in this position is a trash way of doing things. They're likely suing for court fees as well (or should be) so if they do win they just get to keep all that money as well.

$30
First time ever on vinyl, been hoping this one would happen some day. Sounds like they ran into some shenanigans with the pressings in terms of color, but you can see on their site for more info.

I realize in this day and age this type of behavior is deemed problematic and toxic, but it sounds like he was just shit housed and intentionally trolling the crowd for his own amusement. It is pretty funny to Kaufman a crowd and waste their time, especially because millennials take everything so personal lol

I fall into the category that listens to all the soundtracks they buy. It’s epic as shit to clean your house to terminator 2 and short 8/16-bit soundtracks are always a fun listen
But on the subject of Hades and Bastion, supergiant consistently repress their shit unless it’s marked limited. My copies of Bastion and Transistor are probably from the 3rd or 4th run of them directly from supergiant

aopps42 reacted to Derek™ in Video Game OSTs v2.0
If I had the energy and spare income, I’d buy 1-2 copies of every single game and movie OST that comes out on vinyl, and just sit on them for a bit. People pay some truly insane triple digits to spin soundtracks from media they hold dear. Probably the easiest market to exploit; there’s a reason bots and flippers buzz around Mondo like gnats to a porch light.

Those are absolutely fantastic and some of the best speakers at their price point. We sell them a lot at work. I’m a big fan of Klispch. If you ever want a hook up, let me know. I can get you stuff at cost. Same goes for other cool people in here who like Numero.

aopps42 got a reaction from faaip de oiad in Selling records and the new tax law
The weird thing about this is how long are people supposed to keep their receipts? I tend to sell records I haven’t listened to in a few years, and theoretically would have bought those years before that. I can guess at what I paid, but couldn’t be precise. Since this is a brand new law too, I should have had the foresight this was going to be required and saved every receipt ever? Anything from discogs is easy, but a small % of the records I own came from discogs.

Thank GOD Jack White is giving us a new pressing of Dopesmoker. It sorely needed a new variant and repress.
