  1. I've heard that Hayden's Everything I Long For is getting a repress... no other information though!
  2. I was gonna say 'The Happy Birthday Song' by Andrew Bird, but yeah, Wayne's World wins...
  3. If you're not spending $16000 on speaker cables, you're not doing it right. http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649186232-nordost-odin-supreme-2m-speaker-cables/
  4. They are on .ca (though for some reason rollercoaster didn't show up when I searched): http://www.amazon.ca/Red-House-Painters-Bridges-Vinyl/dp/B00WFU3YOW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1438088430&sr=8-1&keywords=red+house+painters http://www.amazon.ca/Ocean-Beach-Shock-Me-2LP/dp/B00WFU3YQU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1438088430&sr=8-3&keywords=red+house+painters http://www.amazon.ca/Down-Colorful-Vinyl-House-Painters/dp/B00WFU3YT2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1438088430&sr=8-4&keywords=red+house+painters http://www.amazon.ca/Red-House-Painters-Rollercoaster-2LP/dp/B00WFU3Y4C/ref=pd_bxgy_15_text_y Songs for a Blue Guitar: http://www.amazon.ca/Songs-Blue-Guitar-2LP-Vinyl/dp/B010BFQFVG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1438088430&sr=8-2&keywords=red+house+painters If you feel like it, can you compare prices and let me know which way of buying would be cheaper?
  5. These are great albums, and I own all of them already, but they're not all that hard to find for around $5 each. I suppose these remasters will be worth it if you have really good equipment though.
  6. Would definitely agree with you on that order, other than the fact that I think Animal Years is better than Starling. I really didn't like his last one much but I think it's partly because he's at his best when working with metaphors and figurative language, whereas Beast was all too literal. In fact it was so literal at times it got a bit funny (he used the phrase 'new lover' more times than that old Will Ferrell in a hot tub sketch). Looking forward to the new one. I have a feeling there will be a lot of biblical references in this one, but many of his best songs have revolved around them, so should be exciting. Also, an incredible performer both solo and with a band.

  8. Without firsthand experience, but based on a lot of reading online, I might suggest taking a look at some of the following to consider (all of which would be quite a bit cheaper if you go second-hand): Sennheiser HD 600 or HD 650 Grado SR225i or SR325i Beyerdynamic DT 880 (with different ohms dependent on how powerful your headphone amp might be There are a ton more, but all of the above listed are open back. If you've never experienced open back, I bought some of the Superlux HD668B cans from Amazon and they are pretty remarkable for $40 or so. I've heard that buying $12 velour pads will increase soundstage and comfort. But obviously what will be best as far as comfort will be to go into a store and try out different fits. I love Grado when I'm lying down but i don't find them comfortable when sitting up. You may want some very large cans like the AKG K550 or K551 (I have the K545 which are a bit smaller but very nice). With $300 to spend, you should have a lot of flexibility. You could find a very decent pair of any of the above second hand and still have money to buy a good headphone amp like the Schiit Magni 2 Uber (which has the option to bypass, so that you can add it to your system).
  9. Before anyone gives you recommendations, some clarification questions: -did you find the fatigue with the M50s came from the comfort or the music? -what kind of budget do you have? -have you looked online as to feedback about the PM6005's headphone amp quality? Usually a popular amp like that will have a lot of comments. If you were to get a headphone amp, would you want to only listen to vinyl or other methods (digital, CD, etc.)? Also, do you know what kind of headphone extension cord you have? I found a no name one that I have had for years and it really lowers the quality, but I used a Grado one with Grado cans and felt like I lost nothing. Usually that would probably be a pretty easy test - try the same song with and without he extension cord and see if you hear a difference.
  10. I would have to agree with you - I've bought expensive and cheap stuff, and I found especially with the more expensive stuff, it's ridiculously well taken care of - not that the cheap stuff is poorly managed, but I bought a 5-6 year old amp that was already with it's second owner, and when I got it it was in pristine condition.
  11. I'm not too sure, but why not replace the whole cartridge with a better one? I imagine you'll hear a pretty big sonic leap if you are willing to spend up to $100, and significantly more if you jump to $200. The Ortofon OM10 is $69. The 2M Red is $100, and 2M Blue is $236. Grado Black is $75, with a whole bunch going up the quality scale until the Grado Gold for $260. Shure M97xE is around $70, and if you want to go more affordable, Audio Technica AT95E is under $40. All would likely improve the sound (depending on the setup). If you have a hi-fi store around you, most of the prices on cartridges are pretty standard, and I'd imagine they'd install it for you if you bring your table in. I installed a cartridge myself, but when it came to putting it on my new table, I brought it in and I'm so glad I did because it really improved the sound.
  12. That's kind of what I've been up to, but I feel like I really want to try some of these headphones hands-on. With a terrible Canadian dollar right now, and the potential to pay import fees, even at some of the rates on Massdrop, I've been a bit hesitant. I've bought a couple pair of over ear headphones without trying and based on online feedback, but I feel like in-ear is a bit more subjective depending on ear shape. I was also reading about Dunu Titan 1, which is a hybrid earbud/IEM that doesn't go as far into the ear. I really want to try them out but haven't found anywhere close to me that sells them....quite frankly, I'm striking out on finding local sellers for Hifiman and those particular Shures too...
  13. Unless there was one years ago and I couldn't find it, I thought it might be a good idea to talk about headphones in a thread dedicated to them. In the last four or five months, I've bought (and sold) several pairs, figuring out exactly what I like in fit, sound, style, and function. I now have headphones for work/on-the-go, home (computer), home (video game system), and for recording music. I've learned that I much prefer over-ear to anything else. What I'm looking for now is a decent pair of IEMs, but I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to get them to fit right. I figured I'd start with a cheap pair - I got some MEElectronics M-Duos from the recent Massdrop, and I'm just playing around with them to figure out what fit works. But also, from what I have been able to listen to, these IEMs are not all that impressive sound-wise. Any experiences with different IEM tips (single/double/triple)? Obviously anything going in the ear is very personal, but I'm having trouble with getting them to stay in and not sound pretty bad (though again, it could be the relatively low quality of these IEMs - I'm thinking I'll try some Shure SE215, Hifiman RE-400, or something equivalent in order to see how they sound and feel).
  14. I really really don't know what to make of this...
  15. I wonder if I will miss being Nick Alt, with all of the legit celebrity status. Every time I walk into any virtual chat room I'm greeted by my many amazing customers. Granted, most of them punch me in the face, but really, I'm doing this for those that don't. #prtndng2bnckalt4vr
  16. Some dollar-bin-esque classics that y'all should always be on the lookout for (I always see many of these and pick them up for friends as needed): Nick Lowe - Labour of Lust Crowded House - S/T (yes, it has Don't Dream It's Over, but this is a fucking amazing album) Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece or Hard Nose the Highway (later than his most popular era, but I always see these two and they are solid) Paul Simon - Still Crazy After All These Years (though any Simon is always golden) Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything Sly and the Family Stone - Greatest Hits (the albums are obviously better, but I always see Greatest Hits cheap everywhere) Rickie Lee Jones - S/T Peter Gabriel - So The Cars - S/T Jackson Browne - Running on Empty (I've always loved Jackson Browne, but many do not) I know this is not quite the same as a list of hardcore and punk bands, but for those of you who like to scavenge thrift stores and stuff, you can do a lot worse than the list above, and these are ones I usually see for under $5 (or should be priced under that).
  17. Nice score. Definitely a step above the usual flea market fare. I've occasionally seen some quality records like that at markets, but usually priced at $20-30 each.
  18. Whoa...quite the surprise! Put in my email, now impatiently awaiting an email with download link...
  19. Talking Heads. One of the few bands I would probably pay $1000 to see live (with all four members).
  20. Worth every penny though... Is still one of my favourite albums of all time. I bought Moving Careful recently too. Actually in the scheme of overpaying for records neither was too bad - €50 shipped for Everything and $45 CAD for Moving Careful. I think all of Hayden's albums have been pressed though - I feel like it has always been important for Hayden to put his music on vinyl. But given that he's rereleases Skyscraper and Closer I get in the last couple of years, I wouldn't be that surprised if his first LP gets repressed. My understanding is that he owns the rights to it.
  21. Well I mostly like his country stuff so there's that too. I'm for Heartbreaker as an introduction because it's my favourite but it also doesn't really sound like any of his other work.
