  1. I'm very excited for this. I loved Kaputt (though Streethawk: A Seduction is my absolute fave). I will say though, that I saw him play solo last year, and it was kind of excruciatingly monotonous. I've always loved Bejar's music because he changes up the sound and style so much album to album, but when it's stripped down to just an acoustic guitar, it all sound exactly the same. And when he played for an hour, despite hitting some great songs (the Temple, Virgin with a Memory, etc.), they all started to blend into each other. I'm hoping to see him with a full band this time around, and I have high hopes it will be a bit more interesting.
  2. I'm selling my less than 6 week old Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear Headphones (black with red cables). Comes with case, box, and everything that came with it. Quite impressive sound, and pretty comfortable - I just find that I think I'd prefer over-ear headphones, but am very much considering Momentum Over-Ears. These will have almost all of the 2 year warranty in tact. I think I will have used them for less than 10 hours total. I'll ship anywhere in the world included in my price, $80US, which includes Paypal fees. Open to discussion/negotiation/interesting trades. Edit: Update - I lowered my price (shipping included) to $80US. Once I sell I'm eyeing a new pair of cans. Help me buy some new cans!
  3. Hmmm. Good point. I think for my purposes, closed back would be better (for when I work in quiet places with other people around), as well as ones that would suffice without an amp. My hope is in the fall when I start a new job, I'll be able to sit at my desk, where I'll have a Schiit stack set-up for listening, but I'd love something that would work on the subway, at my temporary work spaces, etc. I should also add I have a few pairs of cans at home - Superlux HD668B, and Grado SR125 (which are my absolute faves, but are very unportable).
  4. Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I would love some input. I recently bought some Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear headphones for portability, and while they sound really good, I don't quite find them comfortable enough. I am thinking of selling them ($100US shipped anywhere in the world - PM me), and I would love some recommendations for $200 over-ear headphones that are easily portable. I may consider the Momentum Over-Ear, but if there are other suggestions that have a decent combination of quality and portability, I'd love to hear. I've looked at the AKG K551 and I think they're too big for my needs...
  5. New Destroyer album up at Merge. Not sure of details, but it says limited edition clear vinyl (at the bottom). http://www.mergerecords.com/poison-season Bundle with extra 12" with remix: http://www.mergerecords.com/destroyer-poison-season-bundle
  6. YES! THIS IS FAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN ALL MODEST MOUSE AND MARK KOZELEK VINYL COMBINED! EVERYBODY GET EXCITED!!!! LAND BEFORE FUCKING TIME XII!!!!!
  7. I'm very intrigued by this Bugle 2. I've been thinking about upgrading my preamp. I run a pretty basic (but functional) NAD PP3i, but figured I might replace it with something better - Bellari VP129, Lehmann Black Cube, or something like that, but based on the price (and if reviews are accurate), this could be a good option...
  8. I don't know though. I'm a huge fan of this album, but I don't necessarily want to pay a lot of money for b-side tracks that I will probably only listen to once. I'm very much an album person in general, and thinking about some other albums with deluxe versions, I find I rarely if ever listen to the bonus tracks. Not knowing how much the deluxe will cost (or what it will be) might make it a difficult buy for some right now, but I'm very content to buy this reissue now and not really worry about a deluxe.
  9. I may be in the minority on this board, but I'd love to see Aimee Mann and Gillian Welch's albums pressed. I'm really surprised about the lack of vinyl for both, as they have some beautifully produced albums - Mann only has her most recent, Charmer, plus a rare MoFi version of Bachelor no. 2, and Welch has nothing on vinyl, which I find pretty shocking.
  10. I had never heard of this album/band until this was posted. I grew up a bit in the punk/HC scene but never really got into it to the point that I'd know about this. But I think similar situations can be said for a lot of other genres/microgenres, where there are 'holy grails' that most people wouldn't have a clue about. One of them I read about recently is Bent Wind's Sussex (they were a psych-folk/proto-punk band from Toronto from the late 60s who self-released one album before disappearing). The last copy sold went for $3000 about 8-10 years ago, and I imagine one would fetch double if it were listed right now. The story about it here: http://psychedome.blogspot.ca/2009/05/bent-wind-complete-history-commentary.html(my favourite part is how the lead singer sold his last two copies for enough money to take himself on vacation...glad he got a payout from it!).
  11. Yikes. That sounds like a disaster...
  12. You guys, I just came up with the best idea for a Kickstarter. I hope you all support it. It's called: Records On The Floor What we do: We take all of your records and conveniently place them on the floor in such a way that it looks like it was an unintentional but perfectly Instagram-worthy photo opportunity. Don't try this on your own at home - you run the risk of making it look like you just dropped your records out of your Ikea shelves. Flooring records is not an accident - it's an art. Pledge $5 - we will give you one map to floor your records, good for rooms up to 12 x 12 Pledge $25 - we will give you maps to floor your records in all kinds of different rooms - college dorms, messy kitchens, unfinished basements, parents' living rooms Pledge $50 - all of the above plus a special 'I Floor My Records' sticker, compatible with all Crosley turntables Pledge $100 - all of the above, plus a Record Floorist will provide personalized recommendations using FaceTime Pledge $250 - all of the above, plus ten exclusively chosen records based on the colour of your floor (*subject to availability at Goodwill) Pledge $500 - all of the above, plus a special Crosley turntable selected exclusively from Urban Outfitters to best suit your floor
  13. I do all the time, but my turntable has auto-return (vintage direct drive). But yeah, sometimes it's at least 5 minutes before I can wash my hands and flip the record.

  15. That's Owen Pallett's old band, before he put out his stuff as Final Fantasy. I remember when they were around the Toronto music scene for a while - they were different than a lot of other bands and had a bit of a cult following. I prefer Pallett's solo stuff but this is pretty cool and kudos to OT for the rerelease.

  17. What are the advantages of bi-amping? I was impressed enough with myself that I could mostly answer the OP's question, but I still have a bunch to learn!
  18. A/B refer to two different sets of speakers. As in, you could have one set in one room, and then run some to the other, and you'd likely have an A/B switch to select which speakers. It looks like your speaker is set up for bi-wiring. I don't know a ton about this, but my understanding is that it would allow for the tweeter to be fed by one cable, and the woofer to be fed by another so that the sounds can be sent in a clearer way. You'd likely need an amp set up for bi-wiring to use both of those, and it's definitely not necessary. So unplug one of the two speaker cables from the back of the speaker, and put the other ends into the A inputs. Do the same on the other speaker. Make sure your amp is set to A speakers. You should be good to go.
  19. And possibly one of the best I've ever been to. Was in Portland last year, and ended up staying right near the Mississippi District. Found that store, and went in and spent a whole lot of money, plus had a great chat with one of the guys there. Then I decided to go back and pick up the Anthology of American Folk Music collections (they put those out, so they had them for $25 each). Problem was I was low on cash - probably about $10 short, and they only take cash. Guy just gives me a business card and tells me to send them money by mail when I can, because I was from out of town. In the end my wife caught up with me with $10 (because I would never want to shortchange a store willing to do that). Just a really nice record store experience. In general my whole visit to Portland was amazing. We traveled with a 1-year-old and it was very child-friendly, as well as bike-friendly, pedestrian-friendly, and human-friendly.
  20. I feel like this is the most appropriate place to put this, since I didn't think it needed its own thread: http://www.newonvinyl.com/en/barenaked-ladies-stunt.html?mc_cid=65b55254c4&mc_eid=6e54d997a7 Barenaked Ladies Stunt on vinyl. I suppose it's their most popular one, but I feel like I mostly just want Gordon...
  21. I briefly owned this - never listened to it, so I sold it. I wish it had more interesting liner notes or details, but what I think is kind of neat is the way it was organized - four sides, each dedicated to a general geographic region (sort of), BC, Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, Halifax/Maritimes. I'd love to read the book though - but it looks to be physically huge, which means not the most ideal for subway rides.
  22. I have very specific interests: Indie rock bands old enough to have a Geocities page but not quite new enough for MySpace. American power pop bands from Southern California between 1978-1982. Elvis Costello albums that involve the Attractions but not the Imposters, or the 80s. Prewar folk music dealing exclusively with John Henry. Canadian bands that got MuchMusic airtime in the 90s in spite of their weirdness. The National's Sorrow (fortunately very popular these days). Trap.
