  1. It's pretty brilliant for the Leafs, as much as it is a total farce. The joke pretty much since he started his Leafs career with a 10 game suspension was that there would be nobody in the world he could be traded for, in no possible way. For the Leafs, money is no object - they can pay Horton's salary and not blink an eye. And best case scenario, he can play again. I suppose Clarkson could be less of a trainwreck in Columbus? I'm pretty sure there will be very few Toronto-born players that will want to play for the Leafs for the next little while...
  2. Survey Monkey is the worst. Google Forms is the only way to be.
  3. Schweet. I sold mine in December to pay for new speakers, but almost immediately regretted. Excited to own this again!
  4. Quick question: for those of you streaming music using Apple Airport Express, do you use 1st Gen or 2nd Gen? I'm seeing prices second-hand at $25 for 1st gen, $50ish for 2nd gen, but I'm wondering if there's any noticeable difference in sound quality/streaming quality. 1st gen: 2nd gen:
  5. Cheaper at Music Direct: http://www.musicdirect.com/p-5346-ortofon-2m-blue-mm-phono-cartridge.aspx($225)
  6. Great track. I'm very excited about this one. She is so talented but in the most quiet, subtle way. I know that Bruce Peninsula still play a few shows here and there, but not as regularly as in their heyday. For a while they were my wife and my favourite band to see live - so much fun! Last summer I went to see Basia Bulat at Massey Hall and I saw Tamara come on stage and I was so excited - I had hoped that she would be singing/playing, but alas she was apparently Basia's guitar tech. Here's hoping this album gets her big enough she gets to have her own guitar tech!
  7. Yikes. Did you bite the bullet anyways? I wonder if Canada counts as non-USA for RSD releases...for some reason, I have a feeling this will only show up in Europe on RSD...
  8. Try playing this track and see if it's any better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU95v23MQ4c
  9. All or most of the Sub Pop tri-coloured vinyl are warped due to the shrink-wrapping process. No known issues with the VMP clear or the Bella Union 2-coloured press. If you bought from Sub Pop or FJM's store, they will mail you replacements. For Sub Pop, contact them here: https://www.subpop.com/news/2015/02/11/on_the_subject_of_the_deluxe_lp_edition_of_father_john_mistys_i_love_you_honeybearor from FJM's store, go here: https://merchline.wufoo.com/forms/honeybear-vinyl-replacement/ ; all other returns need to be at point of purchase.
  10. Have any Canadians ever ordered from UO's site? Free shipping over $50, which is pretty sweet, but I'm worried about what kinds of duties/taxes might appear...
  11. Thanks for clarifying. Cheers. Might have to pick one up shortly.
  12. I've been closely eyeing the Cambridge Audio DacMagic - have seen a couple available second-hand for about $250 CDN ($200 US). Looks like it has had some pretty good reviews, lot of possibilities/inputs. Will likely also pick up an Airport Express. I don't have a tone of my music in FLAC or 24 bit, so not overly concerned about streaming that high level of files... Allen, you mentioned something about DacMagic 1, 2, and 3. I haven't really come across any specific indicators as to which versions these are. Do you mean the DacMagic 100 (http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/products/hifi-and-home-cinema/dacmagic-100) vs. the original DacMagic (http://www.whathifi.com/cambridge-audio/dacmagic/review) or the DacMagic Plus (http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/products/hifi-and-home-cinema/dacmagic-plus)? Anyone else have any experience with the 100 or Plus?
  13. What if I want to sort it in autobiographical order? Like, so that I know that I first listened to Elvis Costello's My Aim is True when I was 14, but then heard Nick Lowe's Pure Pop for Now People just after that, and had owned a copy of Lowe's Labour of Lust before all this happened?
  14. I don't know if there are any fans of Toronto folk artist/band The Weather Station (mostly a project for Tamara Lindemann), but their new album Loyalty comes out in May 2015, with a preorder here: http://www.paradiseofbachelors.com/pre-order-the-weather-stations-loyalty She has a truly amazing voice, and her songs show a lot of influence from Joni Mitchell, without trying to simply replicate Mitchell's sound. Tamara used to be a member of Bruce Peninsula (one of my favourite local bands for a long time), as well as a performer on Daniel Romano, Baby Eagle, and other local projects. She released a 6-song EP last fall that was quite beautiful and sparse, and so I'm excited to see what this will sound like.
  15. I heard someone was looking for one of these: http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649167120-klhburwen-tne-7000-transient-noise-eliminator/
  16. While I am in fact particularly terrible at dusting, this was just a photo I found on the internetz.
  17. The grounding wire comes out of your turntable along with the two RCA cables. If you're using a receiver that has a phono in (like the picture I found above), you should find a spot to attach the grounding wire (labeled GND). If you're still having trouble with this, take a picture of what's plugged into the back of your receiver for us. If you don't have a grounding wire, that could be a problem. Though I'm no turntable expert...
  18. I'm in the same boat - so far, playing fine. Just got mine from FJM's site. The tonearm bounced the most during the first track on A and B, and considerably less as each side went on. That being said, I'd need to play it a couple more times to really determine if it skips. Actually, nevermind, just skipped. Too good to be true...
  19. Sweet. I love this album, and it will be great to get it on vinyl at a (relatively?) reasonable price. This was my fall-asleep-for-a-nap-when-you-should-be-studying album in University. I always woke up with the seagulls in the middle of the album though...
  20. I'm not so sure on price just yet - looking at some options first. Ballpark $400ish max, with hope that I can something worthwhile well lower. I don't think I can do Apple TV because I don't have a TV near the system to navigate music/videos.
  21. Sorry to resuscitate an old thread, but I have been thinking about adding a DAC to my setup, and I'm wondering what other folks are using. Specifically, I'd love to be able to stream music wirelessly (not necessarily 24 bit) via Wifi or Bluetooth. I know that Airport Express to DAC is an option, but are there other ways? Any and all thoughts always appreciated.
  22. That Hall and Oates collection is far better than it has any right to be. I fucking love it.
  23. I love the Constantines, and almost everything on You've Changed Records (the label co-owned by Daniel Romano and Steve Lambke), but I just really don't like the Baby Eagle stuff. I've tried, but it's just not for me. Maybe it's his odd singing voice, but I've never been able to get into Baby Eagle. Attack in Black also backed Shotgun Jimmie on the album Still Jimmie. But I think other than that, we've got the Attack in Black Family Tree covered. Thanks Blaine! Car playlist for tomorrow!
  24. Hey, I'm not looking for money. Just for fame.
