  1. If the vinyl is any other color than coke bottle blue (to match the show's Blue Sky), the ball will have been seriously dropped on this upcoming press. Being only halfway through the show at the moment, I've been avoiding even reading about the soundtrack for fear of potential spoilers. (Track names, the sequence of songs, etc.) That being said, I am blissfully ignorant on this OST, other than being aware that it's currently available on some picture discs exclusive to Hot Topic. Regarding the music on the soundtrack... are they compositions written for specific moments in the show, or cuts from the show's eclectic soundtrack? Or perhaps a combination of the two, like Drive's soundtrack? And do they span the entire life of the show? I've genuinely loved the song selection and jams used throughout the show. The backdrop they provide for meth deals, cooking, traveling... all of it is so good. (So far, at least, having just started season 3.) There are some tracks that waver greatly from anything I'd normally listen to, and the idea of having small exposure to their styles [vs. entire albums at a time] would be fantastic, if possible. I admittedly haven't paid much attention to the show's compositions, since I find myself absorbed into the context and dialogue. It seems like it does a good job, but I don't know about a standalone album consisting of them. I'll definitely have to check out the MP3s before looking into the gatefold press.
  2. I locked down a yellow-orange-black haze. $32. Pretty pricey for a double LP, but considering I slept on this album for ages - and, like you said, also considering that the aftermarket for Pelican vinyl is pretty nutty - I'm pretty pleased. Especially since it's an untouched, mint copy... which probably retailed for $35, back in 2012. One album shy of finishing their discography. I'm usually pretty neutral on splatter variants, but that WWACTN variant is simply gorgeous. Commence the waiting game. Also, I'd like to give a shout out to a fellow VCer who - out of complete kindness - has contacted me to sell off a mint copy of Saturday Night Wrist for what is essentially retail cost + shipping. Ridiculously grateful. It's funny. "Pelican is pretty good" summed up how I felt about the band, up until a month ago. They've always been a part of my library, and I've always dug them well enough. I've owned City of Echoes on vinyl since 2009 or so. And before Forever Becoming was released, that was the only Pelican album I had physically purchased. When I saw that The Fire In Out Throats was getting repressed a few months back, I decided to revisit it, and something about their sound has really been resonating with me ever since. I finally got around to playing What We All Come To Need shortly after - after not jamming it since 2010 or so - and was strangely more impressed with it than I've ever been. I don't know, it's tough to explain. I know that their drums have always been a little on the uninspired side, but I've just been digging all the riffage and melodies more than ever, I guess. It compelled me to download Australasia just a couple of weeks ago, for the first time, and I was immediately sold on it. It's been a nice little kick. That's great to hear. I always grumble about Hydra Head and their pricing, but you said it -- I don't own a single release of theirs that I haven't been completely impressed with. These last few Pelican albums I've purchased [Forever Becoming and Fire In Our Throats] have some of the nicest gatefolds I've ever seen.
  3. I won't deny that I've had a few debates here on the boards, which - in hindsight - were perhaps a little long-winded and tedious. But like Billy pointed out, I [personally] don't feel as if I go around looking to start shit or harass people. I call out flippers, or weigh in on the whole vinyl pricing debate, etc. I also give flack to a lot of newcomers while they're learning the ropes, but (usually) exchange private messages to ensure that I have no malicious intents. Any "silly" or "immature" content I may post is done when it's the theme of the thread. (Please visit this gem to get an idea of what I'd consider a joke of a discussion.) Point at hand; I'm all about having a laugh once in a while. Don't get me wrong about that. But even if I did post ridiculous, "silly", age-inappropriate comments across the boards... I still don't think it's as immature as going out of your way to downvote. I know that you clash heads with Ryan, but to give him that much attention really says a lot about what kind of effect he's got on you. And I get that it only takes "10 seconds" or a couple of clicks or whatever, but it's the principle. But either way. I'm not here to argue or change how you use the boards. Do what you've got to do.
  4. I believe it's 500 on translucent blue, and 500 on translucent green.
  5. Do you think 2014 will be the year? Or are we just fooling ourselves?
  6. Creating a new profile doesn't seem like it'd take a lot of time, sure. But we all know that's not the issue here. Constantly logging out and back in to double down-vote someone is a new low for VC behavior, in my books. So congrats on that. Aren't you almost in your 30s, natural?
  7. Anyone ever check out the hidden sections between the tracks, on the CD version of this? Obviously CDs are not my preferred medium, which is why I can't remember the last time I've seen "hidden" segments that weren't just a bonus track attached after a stretch if silence.
  8. Are you saying that NOTW managed to directly interfere with your ability to enjoy their previous records?
  9. Very true. It was (mostly) in jest - all of those ideas, actually - but it would be fun to focus on the most noteworthy and positive threads and members. Most generous, most witty, most consistently pleasant, and so on. And so many different threads have delivered this year. It'd be a shame to not recognize them.
  10. Nice. Do you have an earlier or newer press? How's it sound? Only asking because I'm waiting on a RSD-2012 copy to show up, and am quite eager to hear how it may sound at respectable volume, when the time is right.
  11. Bumping with a few updates. Managed to track down Australasia at a price I'm comfortable with. Still really chasing a red or splatter copy of What We All Come To Need, to wrap up my Pelican kick. Patience is a virtue. Also, this happened to the newest copy of SNW that I was watching. But she's relisted another, and I can only assume I'll have a dozen more chances after that one. But even if I were to win one of her auctions at a reasonable price, I'd rather not give her [any more] money.
  12. This is actually the first time that it hasn't notified me immediately, actually. Which is why I was a little thrown off. I just checked the spam folder, and there's nothing there. I'm 99% sure I added my e-mail to the notification list, the day they sold out. But either way, I'm just grateful to grab one.
  13. Haha, if that's happened before Season 3, I must've missed it. And I'd hardly consider that a spoiler for what it's worth. I will say that the show is sprinkled with a very specific type of humor, and I really dig it. The cheeky badgering in the DEA office can be a little campy, but there are some genuinely funny moments. (Fuck you and your eyebrows!) It hasn't happened yet, but I'm waiting for the infamous pizza on the roof... Also. For those of you who've made it through season 2. Sorry for cluttering up the general thread with BB chat. I know that it has its own thread, but ever since I've gotten into the show, I've been avoiding that topic like the plague on the off-chance I'll even skim over a spoiler.
  14. I don't even drink soda and this thread is making me mad thirsty.
  15. Oh, yeah. That too. Having never watched The Walking Dead or Breaking Bad, I quickly learned that nothing happens on Sunday night while those shows are airing.
  16. Right? It didn't occur to me how much I was enjoying OITNB until the season finale wrapped up, and I was craving a conclusion. Way too many open doors and possibilities for the show to take, next season. Man. I'd love some context with this. Without too many any spoilers if possible.
  17. Was optimistically waiting for this. Received no Back In Stock notification e-mail, so thank you for this. Now, I'm just hoping that a few are actually back in stock.
  18. This is totally a thing. I know it may sound rude, but I'm probably more annoyed when people try to talk over Breaking Bad than any other show I've ever seen. The atmosphere of the show is just so intense and dramatic, and a lot of the show's charm lies within the delivery of dialogue. Not only that, but the characters' lies and the story developments are so intricate that it can become very easy to get lost, if you miss parts and pieces of the dialogue. I fully enforce the No Talking rule with it.
  19. Yeah, Netflix. I've really been enjoying the fact that I don't have to "catch up" to actual episodes, and that I can pace the seasons as I see fit. It's been nice. And I feel you. I'd cave pretty hard if it wasn't for work obligations, and the courtesy of "waiting" for others to watch the show with. It's a pretty dark, heavy show (as you obviously know), so as much as I am down to watch four or five episodes back to back, my viewing buddies are usually up for just one or two. There's always a cliffhanger ending, the black screen, and the credits, and they're like "Okay, well. I think I'm good for now." And I'm just restless. (HOW CAN YOU NOT CARE WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?) As far as recommendations. It's a little explicit, but I dug Orange Is The New Black, if you haven't checked it out. I guess it's a drama / comedy, though I'd say it leans on the drama side. It's only one season in so far, so it won't hold you over for long. Same boat. Between commercials and having to "commit" to a block of time, I find that I never follow TV shows, and watch very little TV in all actuality. Netflix is the way to go, though I've also torrented shows -- either the whole season when it's uploaded, or episode by episode as it's aired and ripped. Sitting down with a show is very low on my list of things to do when I have free time. And as such, a show has to be pretty good to warrant me sitting through multiple seasons of it. And I'd say Breaking Bad is easily worth it. (Though I'm only on season 3/5 at the moment.) Congrats on the triple digits.
  20. Are we limited to albums, or can we also vote on best / worst threads of 2013? Maybe best / worst newcomers of 2013? The possibilities are pretty open on this one.
