jeromium got a reaction from Rip in PO NOW: Why? - Alopecia (Reissue - Multiple Variants)
Same here. Have it so I don't need a new color copy, but it's one of my favorite records of this century.

Still listen to this album all the time.

I’ll just stick with my OG copy but I’m still so glad this happened. More people need to own this. One of my favorites of all-time.

I feel like this is both going to drive people away from the forums as well as keep new people for joining. If I wasn't already a member, I wouldn't sign up on a forum that made me disable my ad block.

I'm a firm believer that if you pay for an album in any physical form you are entitled to it digitally in any format you desire forever.

The cover isnt even taking artistic chances that don't pay off. Its just... stupid and lazy.
Cant wait to see the breathless haul posts on reddit with people proudly showing off their purchase. "Only Maynard is innovative and daring enough to deconstruct our perceptions of acceptable cover art!"

Alternate cover isn't alternate enough.

Actually, they know how to GOUGE..... as in, "APC is GOUGING their fanbase with a $125 box set of trinkets."
They apparently don't know how to GAUGE.... as in, "APC didn't GAUGE how little interest there would be in a $125 box set."
Sorry for the grammar police post. (Not to be confused with the ganja police.)

If I was actually interested before I would have withheld my money. It should be a crime to release a cover that bad.

Anyone else thinking about not ordering just because of the artwork? I don't think I've ever passed on an album because of artwork, but damn that's bad.

Eh, Maynard sold out long ago. Once you have a store dedicated to nothing but kitsch, and autographed material jacked up hundreds of dollars. It's hard not to see him in a hypocritical light after what he wrote early on, then he just became another cog in the music $ystem, taking full advantage of it like anyone else.
I say this as someone who loves most of his material, particularly the first few Tool albums.

jeromium reacted to youspinmeround in Best US cities for record stores?
My recommendation with "record trips" is that you can buy whatever you want these days online. With discogs and ebay, you arent going to find some oop gem sitting in their stacks inventory.
You are mostly going to find new sealed items that can be bought anywhere, older classic rock albums and a few" wall pieces" that may not be what you want anyways.
As someone who travels a ton for work and been to alot of stores, I never walk out thinking that was the greatest store visit ever.
However, stores that I think generally are awesome and different
End of An Ear- Austin
Twist and Shout/Wax Trax- Denver(My current city stores)
Strictly Discs/Mad City Music- Madison WI
Permanent Records- Chicago sadly closed by have a LA location
NYC/Brooklyn, Chicago, LA and SF are generally picked over pretty well
My recommendation is spend those 4 or 5 days going to a city because you like it, want to catch some shows or a festival or a nice vacation. Dont make it around buying records. If they have a cool store, go for it but that should be a small part of why you want to go there

Other than 10,000 days, the masterings of all the Tool albums on CD have been excellent and have avoided The Loudness Wars, and even 10,000 days is still nowhere near the dynamic range compression levels we see on NIN and Red Hot Chili Pepper records...they've done a really good job with mastering. Hopefully that won't change on the new album.
However for those that don't have $400 to plonk down on AEnima on vinyl, the idea of getting one pressed at one of the top houses mastered by someone like Grundman, Bellman, RK Smith, Gray, etc., cut directly from the original analogue master, it's hard not to get excited.
If they're done properly and they do a box set, day one preorder for me.
I went through two US copies (2006, using the same lacquers as the 1999 release) of Undertow and they both stunk compared to the CD. I listened to the shit out of this album when it was released, as an angry 19 year old sometimes with a brain full of acid, it is a deeply personal album for me...would love a copy on my turntable that does it (the album) justice.

jeromium got a reaction from Velocity of Sound in Tool Vinyl BUYING GUIDE (Original/Boots, etc.)
Fuck it my expectations are so low at this point. Their sound has not evolved beyond Lateralus and waiting 10 years between albums certainly doesn't help. If/when it comes out and it's great, fantastic I will enjoy listening to it. But I feel they'd put out a much more enjoyable album (to my ears) if they didn't spend so much goddamn time on it.

message to dudes getting uptight about inner sleeve seam splits: vinyl is not for everyone.
having said that, white paper inner sleeves costs less than a penny each when purchased in bulk.
if i had a record label and was producing beautiful albums with artworked inner sleeves, i would
ship the actual vinyl record in a white paper sleeve, so no damage could potentially happen to the inner sleeve
during shipping.
next, i will solve any political problem anyone would care to throw at me.

Really? Ceremony is the first band to rip off JD? They are about the millionth band
Pretty much anything in the post punk genre either sounds like Joy Division or The Fall and has for over 30 years

That new single is tight. Nothing from the band has resonated with me as well as their S/T under Viet Cong, but I’m definitely in.
