Based on opinions and posts in this thread, I signed up for VMP two months ago and I love it. The packaging and records have been excellent quality, and I like the special offers like the RATM Evil Empire. I also just picked up the Guru.

So big thanks to the folks that gave me some good info. VC came through on this one.

You'll have to compare the matrix on the records to find your pressing. If they are old 60's and 70's LPs, they are likely not worth more than a few bucks each. They pressed a lot of those by the 100's of thousands, if not more.

On an unrelated note, you should try to talk some sense into Daenerys. She's really heading into Westeros with a lot of emotion.

Yeah it sucks man. Identical thing happened to me but I was pretty lucky no real damage happened. Probably helps that I'm only 2' 10" tall though.

Shockingly found a new copy for 10 bucks at The Exchange in Pittsburgh. If any of you live in western PA/Ohio or wherever they are...might be worth checking out (the clerk told me that multiple stores had a copy on hand).

I buy demos/floor models. I don't think I've paid full price for a single item in any of my setups.

Trick #ALL: Buy used.  I saved 80% of retail on my speakers (5 years old at the time of purchase), 70% on my table (10 years old), 65% on my amp (10 years old), 77% on my HT receiver (4 years old), 70% on my HT center speaker (6 years old), 70% on my sub (demo model), everything is still working flawlessly. Sure, I'll gladly buy new if I can find it for around 50% off (as I did with my HT fronts), but other than that, second hand is the way to go. There are certain components I prefer to buy new though, regardless of what kind of deal I can get on them.

Not really a trick to finding a lower cost setup, but more of a perspective: I cut back on my record purchases until I had enough money to buy a better setup. After years of buying multiple albums a month and spinning them on a crappy setup, it finally occurred to me that my spending was upside down.
Buying and owning records doesn't matter if they sound horrid.

    Here's what you should do:

    1. If you only bought the table yesterday, I'm sure you can still return it. If they need a reason in order to give you a refund, just be honest and tell them that you didn't expect it to be the piece of garbage it is.
    2. Then take the time to save up for something that will not destroy records with every spin. (This might sound harsh, but it's not an exaggeration).
    3. In the mean time, take a minute and read this to see exactly what you options are and what to expect from any particular budget.

Limiting this to 1000 doesn't seem like the socialist thing to do. Everyone should get one, right?

Sooooo many middle-aged dad rocker dudes are bummed right now that they have to give money to Bernie to keep their Sonic Youth collection complete. Just picturing that has made my afternoon.
