This record is incredible. I've got about 4 listens in now. I enjoy it more each time. Brian's done it again.

I feel they missed the opportunity for a orange, black, and red tri color variant from the three colored circles on the top right of the album cover.

Severed is a phenomenal song - I love when bands can pull out surprises like that 8 albums into a career. The 80s synth, fun guitar lines - the whole thing is just really solid. Super excited for this album.

The Decemberists are a record-collectors’ band, we’re all fans and scholars of music, so there a lot of touch points that we all get, but they don’t always come through. So we were trying to embrace that Bryan Ferry aspect, that kind of set the tone.” Lead single “Severed” was originally written as a punk song, but “wasn’t really working,” Meloy explains. “Jenny set this arpeggio throughout it, and it became like an early New Order song. And I had forgotten that when we made the demo, I also started a file to turn it into more of a Depeche Mode song — I actually wanted it to be a synth song all along.” Listen below.

I’m just here for the outrage over RSD from people wasting their time complaining about RSD...and hopefully a few releases I’m actually excited about.  Last year was the first year I didn’t but anything RSD related.
