I agree 100%, I see great deals for amps on CL all the time. I grabbed an older Sony for $50 bucks, and while it's not replacing my Rotel any time soon, it's great for my basement setup.

I'm of the opinion that any well made cable designed for your application will sound just as good as the high end stuff. I'm sure someone else can comment on XLR connections, I've never tried them. But if you stick with standard RCA, Emotiva makes nice interconnects that are high quality, but very reasonably priced. Blue Jeans Cables are nice too, but in my case they were so stiff and heavy that they were a bit tough to connect with my preamp and position it the way I wanted. Either way, I would definitely want to put more of my money into records or better components rather than spend crazy amounts on cables. Just my two cents.

This turned out incredibly well; I love the contrast of the colors while still remaining nice and desaturated.  Great job.

I had the honor of making a screen printed poster for mwY last month. Being a longtime fan I wanted to make sure the design would really appeal to other fans. The objects in the nest are all collected from their lyrics, particularly from the Pale Horses records. They sold really well at the show and the band took a bunch with them, so I have only a handful left to sell. I'm also about to pack up my studio for a move, so if you want a copy, now's the time! Congrats, that looks fantastic! As for the album, the jury is still out for me. I'm not overly impressed so far but I'm gonna continue listening to it on and off for the rest of the week. I'm a huge fan of everything up through Damnation but everything else since then has been pretty hit or miss.

Do you have your old cart? Try putting it back on and ditching the magnets. That might isolate the issue to your 2M Red.

I bought it because I needed an audio interface, but both the DAC and the headphone output really surprised me. Granted, if I was buying something specifically for headphones I'd likely go for something else, but since headphones are just a last resort for me, this fits me well. But yeah, I've had it for a few months now and this was the first time I tried it with the 551s.
 
I fully support the move to HD 600 or 650 though (I'd go for the 600 myself, I find them to be closer to the AKG sound which I really like). The 551s are very good cans to use on the go, but for relaxing at home they really aren't up to par.

Not sure how good the phono pre in that receiver is; might be worth upgrading. Also, I agree with adjusting the placement of your speakers.
