  1. I'm sure a lot of people have been in that situation too. It's difficult for everyone, and it's very hard to move on from. In my personal experience that behaviour came from the person in question being in a bad place themselves...it may not be entirely excusable, but I always felt like Nicole was a good person who struggled. And who doesn't feel that way at times? I don't mean to negate whatever happened, of course, or excuse behaviour that is inappropriate or abusive. Obviously people don't know the exact details here, and maybe never will, so more than anything else I just hope everyone can put everything behind them and move forward. I want to be excited for TWIABP, and I want to be excited for the OHYO record, and I hope that this personal stuff can be addressed (privately or publicly). This new song sounds great. There's definitely less of a guitar-led feel but when it takes off it soars like anything else they've done. I can't wait to hear the rest.
  2. Yeah, I feel that. I think perhaps I'm not as obsessive over AF as others in here may be - always a fan, though, and I'm very excited to finally see them. Maybe that detachment helps me see it more objectively, but I'm honestly happy to hear something that's pulled me out of my comfort zone and the conversation around it is great to follow.
  3. As one of those people 'challenging themselves' I have to disagree with you (at least a tiny bit). I think some of this album is great, the title track and the latter third of the album are brilliant. They've not forgotten how to write songs, they're just scratching that 'pop' itch they have clearly had for a while in a much more blatant way. And I don't mind that! I think that the production is great and there's some really touches to some of the songs (the string sections all sound fantastic and I don't think they ever overwhelm the rest of the music which I was worried might happen). But, on the other hand, they're having to go up against their earlier stuff to an extent. And it's not in a 'how it sounds' way, it's a 'how it's written' way. I think as others have said that lyrically this album is pretty drab in parts, and it's hard to overlook how pastiche-y the whole thing is (I've been beaten way to the punch on the Abba/Blondie/etc references). And yeah, Peter Pan/Chemistry are terrible - there's no way any amount of relistening will turn me around on those. More than anything though, I'm fascinated by how polarising this is. I don't think it is just people who 'want' to like it who are trying to find reasons to like it - if you dive into the comments on Facebook, etc. there's plenty of people falling in love with the new album. It'll be interesting to see how this all settles - I seem to remember Reflektor being pretty divisive too, at least amongst those I knew. I wasn't impressed but I've come around to it.
  4. I turned on notification emails for both. RIP inbox. There's also a UK variant from Good Job Dog that someone posted in the other thread, but it seems to have vanished after being the first to appear earlier. Maybe I shouldn't have hit that 'notify me when available' button, sorry everyone. It was blue in clear with green splatter, though. Best looking one out of all I've seen so far.
  5. That's good enough for me! I'm in for whatever then. I'm guessing Epitaph? I haven't heard anything about them changing labels. Does mean I have to order through Kings Road, though. Bah!
  6. This is really, really exciting. Harmlessness was a fantastic progression. I guess I was a little worried about Nicole leaving and that affecting the way things sounded but from what you say maybe that was an unnecessary worry. One thing I am curious about, and I dunno if you can say much - with the whole Nicole thing they said 'LP3 will be our statement' - is that something that comes across at all?
  7. These guys are on the Comedy Bang Bang podcast this week as guests! They play a few songs, they sound great. I've never really listened to them but I'll have to rectify that now.
  8. This is absolutely a long shot but a friend just let me down! If ANYONE has a presale code for the UK tour next year that they don't want to use, please please please hook me up with it. Will consider offers on limbs or organs.
  9. Haven't seen an announcement about it yet, but Norman Records here listed a new Tera Melos record earlier on today. Not visible on the website, but I got an email notification as I'd bought a record of theirs before. Whoops? https://www.normanrecords.com/records/166451 "If math rock is your thing, then Tera Melos is also your thing. The fifth record from US math and experimental rockers Tera Melos entitled Trash Generator is a great addition to the genre. Incorporating a number of different textures, layers and elements to their music has enabled them to carry on with the sound they helped develop, but also keep real with the time period they find themselves in. Available on Vinyl LP and CD."
  10. Same boat here, between this and getting to see them in August I am pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty...pretty stoked.
  11. Here's a pretty good video from a show a couple of years ago. It's hardly techno but I get his point. Anyway this song is great and I can't wait for this album. I always assumed, having missed them the first time round, that I'd never get to see them, so I take every chance I can get now. They're always incredible and the visuals are so mesmerising. In Manchester a few years back I sat real close to the projectionist on the balcony, which was really impressive to witness too. Hoping to see them for the fifth time in October, and maybe even hear some songs off the next album!
  12. I didn't get a shipping email from Norman Records but if you go check your order out, it looks like they're starting to change to 'Despatched' now. Hoping it arrives tomorrow so I'm not waiting until I'm back in the office!
  13. Close to £40 for the splatter shipped to the UK, waaah. Does anyone know if Relapse do preorders through any UK/EU distros at all?
  14. I've been mentioning it to them on Facebook at basically every opportunity!
  15. It is indeed remastered. I thought it sounded pretty good!
  16. Some UK preorders for the clear seem to be popping up now: https://www.normanrecords.com/records/165308-mogwai-every-countrys-sun https://www.banquetrecords.com/mogwai/every-country's-sun/ROCKACT108
  17. Just sat back at my desk wondering at what point I'd go "no, that's too expensive" to an Effloresce reissue. There isn't an answer, it turns out. Just sat back at my desk wondering at what point I'd go "no, that's too expensive" to an Effloresce reissue. There isn't an answer, it turns out. Home & Minor would also have no cut-off point. Such a beautiful EP.
  18. If you head over to TIOMT's Facebook (can't copy and paste it, thanks work filters) you can read about the whole thing. Sounds like they may possibly be done for a while...
  19. Hey, I'm not sure about the DPD one - I had the usual Royal Mail options for the UK. But yeah, they ship stuff over here before sending it on - I presume it's in the UK due to the postage options available, so hopefully import fees shouldn't be a worry.
  20. I just got this in the post and I have to say, incredible props to TRL (or whoever's shipping their stuff in the UK, anyway!). This record is so well packaged. Haven't got it out yet but can't wait to listen!
  21. http://cstrecords.com/new-release-do-make-say-think-stubborn-persistent-illusions/ !!! This new song is really, really good. Roll on May, I guess!
