tape reacted to ParallelofDeath in BOTCH sign to Sargent House: all catalog in streaming now, vinyl & more coming in 2022 / NOW: New Song and 'We Are The Romans' 2xLP Reissue
Bands have two options: Either give the venue a big cut of their merch sales (resulting in these prices) and risk alienating fans or make a statement out of resisting merch cuts and only sell merch online and risk losing a big chunk of sales. Both shitty options. Fuck corporate venues that try to squeeze every last penny out of their audience. I really hate it. Fortunately most shows of interest to me in NYC are in regular old lovable shitholes lol.

Received my copy from Amazon today.
What's with still doing 2xLP releases in a single-sleeve jacket?!?! Fuckin' shitballs.

for convenience, sure. for sound quality, absolutely not. and sound quality is going to win each and every time from my perspective. especially knowing how meticulous Matt and company are when it comes to putting out top notch quality and the music as it's intended to be listened to.

It really hasn’t gone up, but might as well gouge us because we’ll pay it.

Well, she's definitely not doing it to try to sell fewer albums.

I grabbed YPAA purely out of venomous spite since SRC completely botched their release and I haven't been able to grab one until now.
Also because this album rips, bought a clear green real fast.

6 LPs for Dookie and 5 for Nimrod while their best album only got 1.5. Injustice, I tells ya.

Can someone explain to me the hype around Taylor Swift? 🤷♀️ For me she is the Metallica of Pop. Principle thing: 💰🤑💰 Not that this is new, but she brings it to a new level, from my point of view. Even in Europe she made it to the headlines because of exorbitant ticket prices.

In the words of Hydra Head:
Don’t like it? Don’t buy it.

I'm not really sure what you'd like explained to you. She is a very popular artist who is also pretty brilliant with her marketing. You either like her music or you don't. In the past, I really did not enjoy her music. Folklore changed that for me, and it made me look at her earlier work in a different way. They way she is handling the rollout of her releases is increasingly annoying me, but now I just hold back and don't buy anything immediately. There will surely be more variants and probably a signed version for every vinyl release.

If we have enough folks into industrial music...I'll let the thread stay and hopefully it can be as active as other genre/style threads we have going.

Went to the Cincy show and it was one of the most unique experiences ever. I highly recommend catching one of these shows.
I chatted with Matt a bit afterwards. He said most likely a July preorder for the reissues, all going through Polyvinyl. Some of the holdup has been cost because they’re releasing all 4 albums at the same time.
I didn’t ask about a Jay print for them or any other details.

tape reacted to Derek™ in PO NOW: DEFTONES - SELF TITLED (20TH ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION) 07/16
The annoying part there is that for huge bands like Deftones, there is even less impact of "voting with your dollar" than, say, an overpriced record on Deathwish or Hello Merch. Artists like Deftones know how wide their reach is, and that it stretches beyond market-savvy vinyl enthusiasts. There are plenty of people out there who do not buy vinyl often, so they have no problem shelling out $30, $40, even $50 for a single LP because it's officially licensed on a fancy color. (Or sometimes not. Nine Inch Nails' pricing is pretty rough too, for just black vinyl reissues.)
With any overpriced record, for every 1 reasonable person "voting with their wallet", there's 10 who have no problem taking their spot. And I feel like that ratio is even steeper with artists like Deftones. I'm happy to still have that Hot Topic variant for this one, so I'm not losing sleep over trying to cop another one. Someone tag me when they make a 45 RPM double LP that's ruby red translucent and coke bottle blue for $30.
