runforcover
So are these singles more in line with the 1984 7" or the most recent album? The first one was a single from the recent LP, and a song that didn't make the LP. The second one was 1984. The third is Jacksonville, which isn't out yet. It's safe to assume none of them are going to sound like 1984. He said in a recent interview he records music every day that doesn't make it on albums and this is a way to release some of it. cmax64
Never got really into Ryan Adams but I've been digging this album a ton. I listened to Ashes and Fire when it came out - but besides that and a few tracks from Gold, not really sure where start with him. Anyone have any suggestions? timsimmons
Heartbreaker Cold Roses Jacksonville City Nights Love Is Hell And to a lesser degree, 29. those are his best albums as a solo artist. But none of them are like the new album. Some material on these 4 is similar to some stuff on A&F.

If you like the new album, Rock N Roll is a likely progression for your next album.

runforcover
I think Heartbreaker is a good starting point because its his first record and must acclaimed, but I would check out Cold Roses, Love Is Hell, Gold, Jacksonville City Nights, 29 in that order. They all have very different vibes. Based on what you like from those, Demolition, Rock N Roll, Easy Tiger and Cardinology may be worth checking out, but more so for a few choice tracks, not as whole albums. There's so much material thats better than those records that they are hard to recommend in my opinion. Rock N Roll is really the only record I truly dislike though. ronniegwilliams
Demolition still holds up pretty well. "Starting to Hurt" is such a great track.
jerseypride
Demolition still holds up pretty well. "Starting to Hurt" is such a great track. Word. The only weak track on that record is Cry on Demand. Does RA's hate for his record stop him from playing these tracks live?
timsimmons
I'd sayJesus don't touch my baby is the worst track on Demo.

llamason56
I do not like 29 at all and is easily the weakest of the 3 albums he put that year. Never have really have liked it but maybe that's because I liked Cold Roses and Jacksonville City Lights so much more. Demolition is definitely a compilation record and not an actual album. Still has a lot of great tracks though
timsimmons
I really liked 29 when it came out, but over time I've realized it's only half great.
runforcover
I love 29, it's so quiet for the most part, but every song is memorable to me. I love every song sans maybe Strawberry Wine.

I guess that's why I have such a hard time with that album because of that track. I like the title track and the Wine would come on and kill it for me. I'll give the album another shot when I get home.

runforcover
Strawberry Wine is one of the best tracks on the album. It's fine...its just REALLY slow and 8 minutes long. Weird placement for what it is.
Rev. Mike
Strawberry Wine is one of his best tracks period. I hear it as his Ambulance Blues or Don't Be Denied (doom period Neil Young).

shanerockey
What is up with music direct charging $15.33 to ship Ryan Adams - Do You Laugh When (Limited Edition 7")? Any other outlets selling this?

nelso330
The beauty of RA is everyone will say start "HERE" and another "HERE" because he has such a diverse and large catalog! I'd say his outliners would be 'Rock n Roll' and 'Ashes and Fire' the two ends of his spectrum....My favorite album will and still remains to be LOVE IS HELL. Just for the heck of it here is my love list: (including The Cardinals albums of course) 1. Love is Hell 2. Cold Roses 3. Rock n Roll 4. Jacksonville City Nights 5. Demolition 6. 29 7. Gold 8. Heartbreaker 9. Easy Tiger 10. Ryan Adams 11. Cardinology 12. Ashes & Fire 13. III/IV
llamason56
So I listened to 29 again and I still can't really get into it. It feels unfinished aside from the title track. I dig the low keyness of it all but it's eh for me. I do like the songs 29 and Night Birds but everything else has a sameness to it that makes the album as a whole boring to me. My opinion though and is just my least favorite of his.
