radiatorhums
I felt like The Paper Chase never got the attention they deserved. I don't even know if they really found much of audience at all. It's dark, jangly rock. A lot of their stuff is more abrasive than the two songs below, these are just a couple of my favorites.
joshman150
Found this band on Real Estate Pandora. can't find any info on them more than they were a short lived band who released a 4 song EP on CD Also found this local Atlanta band's 7" at a Goodwill. One of the best 55 cent purchases I've ever made. They remind me a lot of a more acoustic guitar driven version of The Shins. http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Demons/1Yi9uV?src=
maneatingcow
Figured I'd throw this in here. Just got done my local Mile of Music Fest which is an Americana / Folk / Indie Rock fest. It's set up to recruit a bunch of Midwest bands along with some bands from all over that have huge followings in their local areas. Here are some of my highlights from the past week. ronniegwilliams
I could go on for days about how Gasoline Heart is the most underrated band in the universe. For those that are fans of Americana/rock n' roll bands ala Gaslight Anthem, Ryan Adams, The Wallflowers, etc; this is right up your alley. I could go as far as to say that Gasoline Heart may be my favorite band, so much so that I have their lyrics tattooed on my arm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHVDS5m73wY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ka6tU-ZN6fc Seriously, this band is everything that is rock n' roll. Listen to their first two records and they will make you smile, tap your feet, and want to find the closest pretty girl and make her dance with you and give you a smooch. McCandless
So many to check out when I'm home, I'm needing new music. I know a few of you have done it but more people should put 'FFO' or 'RIYL' with each suggestion.
Satan
My contribution for this thread is the River City Rebels. Started out as a ska/punk band, then went glam (when it was fashionable in 2004) but then went on to write two of the fucking best rock and roll albums i've ever heard. from the album "Keepsake Of Luck" this track is "Sick Kids In Love" (they used the glam era photo for the video, pay no mind) from the album "In Love, Loveless" this track is "It's Still There Now Dear" Hope you all enjoy! These guys are amazing. randomfortunepa
dkrtz
To whoever mentioned THR paper chase, shouts out to you my friend. I've always loved their albums, specifically because of congleton's production prowess. There's no other band crafting such catchy pop songs with such offsetting, genius sampling and little touches. As for bands you guys should check out that arr up-and-comimg/unknown... try Chipper Jones Chipper Jones is a two piece instrumental group from Texas. They use a slew of pedals and whatnot to craft hefty guitar and drum based compositions using loops and effects. Their album was recorded live. I saw them open for Alex G (though their music is insanely different) and picked up a copy of their Two Rooms EP on cassette (x/200). Check out their bandcamp. Nicest dude and does pretty nice work on top of being in some pretty awesome bands (he was also in The Ratchets).
brianmorgante
Lots of awesome smaller artists doing great things will be featured in the always growing Flesh and Bone Digital Series that launched today. This first batch has 11 bands, 12 albums you can snag, almost all of them for free, and ones that do cost will never be more than $2. All genres, you might find something new you enjoy in these artists! www.fleshandbonedigital.bandcamp.com edgedestroys
Eliminator Jr.
Definitely State Faults. So under appreciated. There's this huge wave of really well known and also quite successful Post-HC bands going on and to me State Faults are superior to all of them. One of the most interesting, technically versatile and gut-wrenchingly awesome bands out there at the moment. If you are into anything involving Touché Amore, Pianos Become The Teeth etc seriously check these guys out and be blown away instantly. It's unfortunate they broke up. The Nighty Nites are good, but they didn't seem to capture what I loved about The Paper Chase.
dapeebs
For anyone who knows of Erra, or even if you don't. You need to check out Ghost Atlas. The guitarist/clean vocalist from Erra's side project. FFO: Saosin, Circa Survive, etc.

They remind me of My Iron Lung, which is another band I think is unappreciated. Relief is an amazing album. Probably my favorite of the year. EntryLevelDave
I don't know if underrated is the right word, but for all the attention Blink-182 gets, +44 and Box Car Racer are two of my personal favorites. Edit: In terms of bends genuinely underrated...A Loss For Words. I never understood why they weren't bigger in the Pop Punk community. dawhizz
Not sure how well known it is (and it is not and likely never will be on vinyl), but Devin Davis' Lonely People of the World, Unite! is pretty much a perfect power pop album and he plays almost every instrument on it. This is a good place to start:

dawhizz
Not sure I've ever seen this band mentioned, but I really like Quiet Company, particularly the album We Are All Where We Belong. Some may be turned off by the theme (as the description says, it's essentially a break-up album between the lead singer and religion, but done in a really smart and not mean way), but it's worth your time and available on vinyl (you used to be able to order it signed, not sure if you still can). Particularly love this song: http://www.quietcompanymusic.com/store/music/vinyl/we-are-all-where-we-belong
