caninesapien
I saw noise bands The New Blockaders with the Haters a few years ago and remember reading about a 1983 release by The Haters that was an unpressed 7" packaged with a razor blade so you could scratch in your own grooves. The inner read "Listen to the scratches". Obviously that's ridiculous but I think it's an interesting notion. It's firmly in the performance art end of things as opposed to actual recorded music but still I think it's pretty cool. Do you know of any other things like this? Even stuff like removable centre labels (likeon Lazaretto?), or more extreme stuff like the example above.

AlexH.
Christian Marclay has done a lot of stuff along these lines. My favorite is Record Without a Cover. It was sold without a jacket, and the etching on the B side says "do not store in a protective package". He also pressed 1000 LPs with field recordings of footsteps and tap dancing, then laid them out on a gallery floor as an art exhibition: Then sold them with footprints and everything. jhook
The Have Heart 7", which turned out to be a 7 inch ruler. Didn't Fucked Up put out a record that was just noise and background chatter from the studio?
Youinreverse
I like The Durutti Column's album with a sandpaper cover. So punk. http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/magazine/return-of-the-durutti-column-feature
Guest
The Feederz also had a cover with sandpaper on it for their album "Ever Feel Like Killing Your Boss?"

TheGhostOfRandySavage
The Flaming Lips do crazy shit all the time, not usually for their vinyl releases though. They had that one that was a usb drive inside a gummy skull or some shit, Zaireeka, supposed to play 4 copies at once, blood pressed into vinyl,

Guest
Just looking through what I own: Northless had a 10" where the cover was 2 pieces of wood, one of which had a "N" branded onto it.
