icecream
Easily one of the better releases in mainstream Hip Hop in a long time. The different voices and his flow throw some people off but I love it. Sometimes when he does that it reminds me of the way big used to do that so accurately
Jetboy
J. Cole MILES ahead of Kendrick
Family Friendly Rap God
You got me listening to J. Cole talking about him earlier (I think it was you), I'd say he's miles ahead of Kendrick, but different strokes. I think all the skits and shit on GKMC just really turned me off. I've never been much into skits, even though I know on GKMC they helped move a story along. I maybe felt like he was spoon feeding the story too much... Just let the music tell it, you know? Yeah that was me. J. Cole is dope. Took me a long time to jump on the bandwagon. I personally like Born Sinner way more than Forest Hills Drive.Kendrick's voices can be a little more distracting than Biggie's but I truly enjoyed GKMC for the cohesive story it told and Kendrick's lyricism. The Blacker The Berry has me feeling positive this will continue with [untitled] Sometimes when he does that it reminds me of the way big used to do that so accuratelyI hate comparing people but Biggie's storytelling was so ill

downisthenewup87
1) Good Kid is a very solid album but Section 80 is the masterpiece. Not surprising really, a lot of the best releases of this decade have been the ones that were dropped online for free (1999, Section 80, Acid Rap, The Water(s), ext). 2) J Cole is inoffensive trash. Kendrick is the best thing mainstream hip-hop has had going for it since Outkast. And with the mix tape blurring the lines between underground and mainstream, commercial rap hasn't been this good since the height of DE LA Soul, Fugees, Nas and ATCQ. 3) I'm fully expecting an instant classic when this drops. However, G.K.M.C. is probably the worst sounding vinyl I own... so unless they announce a limited variant, I'll be holding off until reports on sound quality emerge. Countdown until somebody begins yammering about (how I failed to mention) Tupac starts in....

I've only played it maybe twice
Breezus
So ... GKMC isn't worth the 28 bucks? Anyway, I'm highly anticipating LP3 and hopefully it gets a good pressing (I'd be surprised if there won't be an official vinyl release). I have huge expecations but I've got a feeling the new album won't disappoint.
pizza face
The GKMC press is terrible. I've only played it maybe twice This is probably why I've only listened to the first half of the album. Too much noise and crackling. Forgot I even had it to be honest.
natenomm
So ... GKMC isn't worth the 28 bucks? The most I'd pay for GKMC on vinyl would be $20. I've seen it at my local shop for below $17 in the past.
Breezus
Oh, then I guess I'll wait until I find it for cheap. Title is apparently 'To Pimp a Butterfly'. And the artwork couldn't be more perfect: https://Instagram.com/p/0FSsDKo3Oy/
soundofsulfur
My copy of GKMC sounds excellent. I pre-ordered my copy, so maybe the later pressings don't sound as good?

cwhitmuzik
I always thought my GKMC press sounded amazing. Super bassy. Haven't listened to it in a long while diabretic
topher
Reeeaally hoping that title grows on me. Not loving it right now. Cover is dope, though.
airlock
That title is pretty powerful if you really think about it. i'm diggin that artwork too
Gesundheit
Kinda surprised to hear that there's division on GKMC. I took to it pretty quickly, but I felt that it's real value was in it's lasting appeal. So much of hip hop feels reliant on being current and doesn't aspire to be timeless. Derek™
I don't want to sound condescending, but I'm genuinely curious: how does a title grow on you? Do you read it or say it aloud multiple times until it rolls off the tongue? Or think about it until it takes on a new context? You guys have got me wondering. I was like WTF until someone said that it was possibly a To Kill A Mockingbird reference. This is as well from AbsolutePunk The best explanation yet would be that if refers to the corruption of something innocent, natural, and beautiful for profit; and that is has something to do with emergence/completion of a transition. It would fit what we know about the record so far in terms of social themes.
topher
Yeah, I already like the title more than I did even just yesterday. Definitely feeling the above interpretation.
topher
"Official" tracklist: Wesley's Theory For Free? (Interlude) King Kunta Institutionalized These Walls U Alright For Sale? (Interlude) Momma Hood Politics How Much A Dollar Cost Complexion The Blacker The Berry You Ain't Gotta Lie (Momma Said) i Mortal Man Looks fairly legit. Definitely reads more like a Kendrick album than the fake one that was floating around. nardes
airlock
Anybody think the vinyl will be out the same day as release?
Breezus
I thought i wasn't going to be on the album? And yeah, I think it will (at least I hope so). I think the Oxymoron vinyl came out on the release date, so I don't see why TPAB wouldn't.
