Kanye West - The Life of Pablo

The extreme tonal shift from Graduation to 808s is unlike any artist that I can think of - at least in terms of back to back albums. The extreme emotions conveyed with the unconventional production that proved to be a guidebook for a lot of music nowadays is not to be taken lightly. Seeing him sell out two back to back shows at the Hollywood Bowl last year JUST playing this album is proof.

Agree with this about 808s. Not my favourite of his albums, but it deserves respect.

Kanye at Governor's Ball right before Yeezus came out was fucking EPIC. My first time seeing him (seen him 4 times now) and it was unreal. I was right by the catwalk and he was 15 feet from me during Runaway and a few other songs.

I'm hoping this Governor's Ball will be just as incredible now that TLOP is out. Can't wait.

Can't silence the truth homie

808s is one of the most influential albums of the aughts and will be remembered 50 years from now

This is factual, 90% of rap these days (Future, Drake, any rapper that uses autotune...) has 808s to thank for that. It's probably fifth or so on my list but it's his most influential hands down)

I saw him at the United Center with Kendrick during the Yeezus tour, and it was the best kind of over-the-top. The entire mountain/stage setup was massive, and him rapping with masks on until Jesus came out of the mountain to "bless" him was great. He used a goddamn snow machine just to make it snow for Coldest Winter! And the 15 minute rap with an autotuned "We shoulda never ever let MJ play for the Wizards" was just the cherry on top.

What I'm saying is, if Kanye's going to be performing within 3 hours of where you live, you should probably see him.

I skip Famous every time I listen. There are plenty of terrible Kanye lyrics on this album but that song has the most cringeworthy. Along with the bleached asshole stuff, but that goes by quick enough for me to still listen to FSMHpt1.

Opinions. Different strokes. All that shit.

Absolutely love Waves but "sun don't shine every day, bird can't fly in a cage" is worse to me than the bleached asshole line.
