I'd love to help out but I'm on my phone right now and the NHL & hockey in General is a far more complex team sport to compare it to the nba in my opinion. More often than not teams that rely on speed sacrifice a lot of d so they end up not being a good team ie the Oilers. One team that does successfully blend speed and solid defense are the Blackhawks through.

A majority of the top teams in the league rely on a solid foundation of defense ie the bruins, kings, hawks, blues etc.

As far as marquee player you're looking at Crosby, Ovechkin, stamkos, malkin but really almost every team has some sort of "superstar", just depends on what you like. For me I like a complete player so I like players like Kopitar and datsyuk who may not put up a ton of points but are also great defensive guys.

A couple really good blogs on hockey are the puckdaddy blog on yahoo and backhand shelf on the score which could help you understand the league & players as well as the game in general.

There is sooooo much more to the sport though that in sure others can eleberate more on.

Thanks! Will check those blogs out

In terms of gameplay I'd say just learn what constitutes offsides and icing, those are the two major things that will stop play and/or effect how certain plays develop.

The key to learning is just watching and the key to watching is having a reason. Pick a team to follow and just jump in, hockey is super fun to watch but nice to have a little bit of an "emotional" investment in a certain team.

I'd say the Bruins becaus they are good AND fun to watch. But that is obviously a super biased opinion.

HOW THE FUCK IS DEL ZOTTO SO TERRIBLE?! HOW?! ITS A POWER PLAY, NOT ONLY DOES HE GIVE GAUSTAD A BREAK AWAY, HE THEN JUST THROWS THE PUCK IN THE SLOT WHERE NO ONE IS FOR FISHER TO JUST TAKE A SLAPPER ON HANK. REALLY DUDE?!

Just hope that the only reason he's in the lineup is for teams scouting to make a trade, although this could hurt the cause more than help it.

we don't sacrifice defence for speed, we just don't have any defence whatsoever.

scary thought when your best defenceman is jeff petry, who most of you have probably never heard of.

Ferrence is your best D Man by a long shot. And he was at his best the #4 in Boston. That's scary. Nurse is dope though and with some good moves shit could straighten out for EDM.

Ference is not our best D man.  On paper he might be, but he has been on successful teams his whole life.  Petry has been, surprisingly far and away our best D man all year.  Klefbomb and Nurse, by the looks of it will be NHL ready next year.  Nurse, maybe not since he's only 18, but by the way he played in camp and is playing in junior things are looking good.  That is the only reason Smid was moved.

My patience for Del Zotto officially hit rock bottom last night. It's like he's un-learning the game. At this point I'd take a 4th liner and an AHL defenseman for him.

ok well you're fucking insane because hes not worth that little......hes worth a high draft pick. He just cant hack it in NY.

Down 2-0 in the first, what does Del Zotto do? Takes an undisciplined penalty. Classic Michael.

this made me think of you

The LVP (Least Valuable Player)

Michael Del Zotto – D – 40% Owned

You poor, poor souls clinging to Del Zotto. What a curse it must be to be blind to his particular brand of awful. You know who isn’t blind to it? Alain Vigneault.

Vigneault had Del Zotto start the week in the press box and in his first game back he didn’t sniff a second of power play time. That power play time returned in his second game but the reality is that he hasn’t worked on the power play for some time now and what success the Rangers have had has occurred largely without him.

Del Zotto has that Marc-Andre Bergeron stink to him. He’s a power play specialist who isn’t always special. Your only hope as a Del Zotto owner is a trade to more favourable circumstances. Don’t hold your breath.
