Guest Admin
From Pirates Press most recent newsletter: After years of development, scrapped ideas, and disappointment… the time has finally arrived!! PIRATES PRESS HAS BEGUN TO MAKE FLEXIDISCS! While we are not yet taking orders from the public, we will be soon!! Stay subscribed to this newsletter for important ordering and product information over the next few weeks! I'm curious to see your thoughts. Labels, will you be ordering flexi-discs? Vinyl Collectors, will you be buying them? I have a few in my collection, most notably one from Lookout Records that came bundled in an early issue of Punk Planet. I think I might also have the Nobodys/Falling Sickness split as a Flexi-disc. What Flexi-discs do you have in your collection? I think that if a Flexi-disc is affordable enough, man, it would be great to see them in future issues of Razorcake. Hey Todd, let's make the first flexi-disc for Razorcake a 4 way split between Tiltwheel, TimVersion, Cheap Girls, and Two Cow Garage!!! patrickemmons
I'm excited about it - hope the prices aren't that bad - I'd love to get something pressed on it for my label
skutch
I've got a few Japanese hardcore flexis from back in the day but, for the most part, the sound quality is terrible. I'd buy them if they were dirt cheap and that was the only way the release was available but I'm just not a flexi disc kind of guy!
Just Another Tom
I would buy them if it was a band i collected but probably wouldn't listen to it. I'd definitely buy one just for the novelty factor to, and at least to try out sound quality etc. I think they are definitely more suited to free give aways with magazines and the like. hookups96
I always said if I saw the one by Less Than Jake I would pick it up. But besides picking up one, not sure I would pick up many more.
chiefwahoo
These only made sense as promos way back when. And even then, they were pretty atrocious. Did their development, scrapped ideas, and disappointment actually result in an improvement in flexis? I can't see buying these things. xfedaykinx
TERRIBLE IDEA. things are worthless.
xjustinxschwierx
I'll reserve judgment until I know I can order these and not be raped by the shipping charge. Which could easily bounce these from affordable novelty item to a pointless waste of money.
jhulud
I remember when I used to read Reflex magazine and they would include a flexi in every issue.
hookups96
Wait I just remember I had one of these from Burger King, it was Alf!
papashawn
I agree, a record thin enough to bend with a magazine? I can't imagine these things sounding any better than complete crap. Its a novelty at best. I wouldn't waste a dime. Plus I've heard bad things about Pirate Press in general, farming out their pressing overseas, the wal-mart of pressing plants. suburbanargyle
I've got an ALL one from the early 90's from a magazine or something. It sounds awful.
desensitizedbyu
I've got a Queens of the Stone Age one. It sounds really creepy.
initrecords
yeah these sound awful and are basically a junk novelty. i have a frodus one, born against one, a republic of freedom fighters one, and they all sound like shit. that said, i have a double of the frodus one, if anyone is interested PM me
xjustinxschwierx
yeah I have an old Lookout one from a catalog, a Rev catalog one, a Ng records sampler with Orange 9mm and one with a live Pixies track on it, they don't sound great, but as a goofy novelty it'd be cool & fun if they were massively cheap to make. Yeah I can't imagine the price being much less than a 7 inch so it seems more like a novelty.

xxmartinxx
I've got an ALL one from the early 90's from a magazine or something. It sounds awful. What song is on it?
lonesomexloveus
call me crazy, but i have never heard of these before, and when i googled 'flex-disc' all that came up was stuff about a car part. so can someone please explain what they are? i'm assuming that they're like a 7" but....flexible plastic? troymess
These things are fun for collectors, but just sound fucking terrible. I have the C.R. one and a few I got from cereal boxes when I was kid. You usually have to weight these things down with a coin(s). If they're going to cost a lot to press, I'd say it's a waste of time.
jimmythescumbag
call me crazy, but i have never heard of these before, and when i googled 'flex-disc' all that came up was stuff about a car part. so can someone please explain what they are? i'm assuming that they're like a 7" but....flexible plastic? Pretty much....it is just a plastic, film-like "sheet" that has grooves cut in it. Like most have said, it is a novelty at best.
kidamnesiac
Would not pay money for these. They're the equivalent of a free 128 kbps mp3 download. @Allison: Flexis were basically a 7" printed on a sheet of pvc. You often had to punch the disc out of the sheet. They commonly came tucked in to music 'zines through the 80s and early 90s. Here's a scan of an old Smashing Pumpkins flexi.
lonesomexloveus
huh. ...that just doesn't sound appealing to me. and by that i mean i can't imagine it would sound good enough to warrant pressing them.
gabpower
I only have one at the moment and I think it sounds good enough. I was surprised at first. It's so thin you can see trough it. If it is really cheap, I would press a few.
Guest Admin
I agree with the majority that the sound sucks, but would it not be cool if each issue of razorcake or let's say a hard copy vinyl zine came with one that featured 4 different bands each issue. Would that not be cool?
