Quick question. There are labels that order extra test presses (usually with blank white labels) to send bands on tour with once in a while when the rest of the pressing won't be ready for a bit. So the consensus is that they're tour presses and not test presses?

Envious of the Minor Threat tests.

I've definitely seen several instances of this in the past. However, I think it was bands pressing their own stuff rather than a label doing it.

I'd say they are both. They are a large run test pressing.

Maybe...but as examples P+P just did this for After The Fall, and Run For Cover is doing it (and has done it) for Captain, We're Sinking, Daytrader, and Coasta to name a few. More labels have done this before. Its a way for labels to help bands by giving them some vinyl for tour to hold them over while the rest of the order is being pressed. I also think with all the vinyl delays happening everywhere this will be more common.

I've got a few Career Suicide records like this. The band just ordered X amount of test presses and did tour editions. I usually list them as tour pressings, not test pressings.

  • 2 weeks later...

I only have one. Just got Gregory Alan Isakov - This Empty Northern Hemisphere. 3/10. I really love this album and I hadn't bought it on vinyl yet. Just cause i'm interested... do most of you who have a test press of whatever album have a regular pressing of it as well? Or is just having the test press enough. Cause i've been contemplating ordering a regular one of this album, mostly to have the jacket i suppose.
