what do you do with your splits?

Recommended Posts

no really, i want to know!

do you keep them with the artist you bought them for, or do they have their own special place?

how do you organize them?

i keep them separate from my 7"s, because i don't like to play favorites, and none of them are in any particular order. fortunately i don't have any split 12"s or 10"s to worry about yet.

I put them with the artist that originally inspired me to purchase it.

this, or if I like both bands, just whichever one is listed first

I don't necessarily go with the artist I originally purchased the split for, but the artist I'm going to want to listen to the most. For instance, I bought the Ink&Lead/Sister Kisser split awhile back for the Ink&Lead stuff but after hearing the Sister Kisser side I knew I'd be looking to listen to Sister Kisser more, so I filed it in the "S" section. I love being a nerd.

I never really thought about this before haha. I have my Broadway Calls splits under Broadway Calls because that's who I bought them for and their one of my favorite bands.

But then I have the Maker/The Story So Far split that I bought for The Story So Far but I filed it under Maker because I have another Maker 7". Now I have the new Story So Far/Morgan Foster split on the way, so I don't know what I'm going to do.

I have a separate shelf for splits and I organize them by whichever band / musician is the A-Side. If an A- Side isn't defined I revert to which band I originally bought it for.

This is exactly how I do it, however in a few rare cases I will let the "band that I bought it for" overrule the "A-side band" in order to keep a specific band's splits grouped together (all the Braid splits come to mind, for example).

a few rules I guess I go by:

1) If I get a split for a band I love and the other band on the split is one I don't know well, I always file it under that band I bought it for, even if the other band I don't know well is the A-side band.

2) If I like both bands, I usually put it with whatever band I have more releases by.

3) If I have no releases be either band but like both...I just file it under the band that has whatever song I think is better.

hahah

The only exception I have like that is the Crime In Stereo / KYI split because I have the spraypainted cover version that just has CIS on the front.
