This might be old news but I thought I'd ask opinions about this here.

Are we to believe that Furnace MFG are actually pressing every single RSD related piece of vinyl from EVERY label?

Here's the claim:

http://www.furnacemfg.com/vinyl/RSD

Am I crazy to think that's what they mean or are they simply implying that they are doing most of the release?

I think that's like Oscar Meyer being the "official hot dog of baseball" or something. They have some kind of marketing deal worked out, that's all. We didn't use them for any of our RSD releases.

http://sideonedummy.com/record-store-day-7s-from-flogging-molly-the-horrible-crowes-and-dave-hause

Dave Hause:

I released Resolutions last year, which is a full blown studio record with all the bells and whistles. I toured all over the world, playing the vast majority of the shows with just an acoustic guitar. People responded extremely positively to the record, but many folks asked if I would be releasing any versions of the songs the way I mostly performed them live, truly solo, just me and a guitar. It got me thinking that it would be cool to release stripped down versions of the songs with different arrangements and to put them out on a series of 7"s, and I figured it would be unique to have an array of my favorite labels put them out. I asked around to various friends and got things rolling, and went back in the studio to record 20 songs: all 10 tracks from Resolutions re-arranged, and 2 covers from each of the labels putting out a 7", from artists in their catalogs.

Pete Steinkopf and I had a blast recording, and I'm looking forward to them coming out. Looks like Side One Dummy will release theirs first, on Record Store Day, and then each month a different label will put out another 7", with artwork by Matt Hock (The Explosion), 5 releases in total. There are some strange covers and truly unique moments from those sessions, I'm looking forward to these songs seeing the light of day.

The press release:

Dave Hause' Resolutions will be the first in a monthly series of 7" releases on various independent labels. Hause, the front-man for Philadelphia based punk band The Loved Ones, is teaming up with Side One Dummy, Jade Tree, Chunksaah and Bridge Nine Records amongst others. Each release will feature Hause covering two songs from the respective label's catalog as well as two alternate takes of Hause originals. Resolutions will feature covers of Audra Mae's "The River" (From the 2010 release The Happiest Lamb) and Flogging Molly's "Whistles The Wind" (From the 2004 release Within A Mile of Home.) Alternate versions of "Resolutions" and "Melanin" from Hause’ first full-length will also appear on the release. The pressing is limited to 300 copies on black vinyl and 300 on white vinyl.

Oh god, this is going to be amazing. I need it.

few things about the WB list:

a) The Eric Clapton Blues box was available on his website in blue vinyl and sold out (Edition of 500). The black vinyl version was available at becausesoundmatters. So are they just dumping the leftovers to the public and actually calling it an offical RSD release?

B) Fleetwood Mac Again?? You would have thought after the backlash they got last year, they wouldn't do it again....yet here they are.

c) RHCP Stadium Arcadium. An item that has been released in 2007, apparently the exact same release...so is this leftovers too? I love the marketing speil used to sell it too. Hell you can buy this now for $40 here:

http://www.elusivedisc.com/prodinfo.asp?number=WEALP44391

Also...for those wondering where the Flaming Lips Collaboration LP is, at the end of the WB press release they state this:

"NEWS FLASH! Expect exciting news from The Flaming Lips regarding their very special, limited RSD exclusive release. Stay tuned!"

So it IS coming, just will be announced separately.

That is all.

i think the version for $40 is not the deluxe set and is not on 180g. there were 2 different versions of Stadium Arcadium released, a deluxe version and standard version. both were 4LP sets but i think only the deluxe version was on 180g. the deluxe version also had slightly different artwork/a different cover and was metallic instead of not being metallic. the deluxe set also retailed for close to $100, so if they mark it down for RSD like they say they will then it's a step in the right direction.

doing a simple search on elusive disc for the album would reveal all that info though instead of pointing out of the problems with warner's list. search for stadium arcadium and you can see the two different versions.

Whatever. It is still a 2007 release, which means WB is potentially dumping left over inventory and calling it a "official RSD release" which is BS.

This day isn't about "warehouse finds" or to re-price items that didn't sell well...it is about unique items like the Lips/Mastodon or Fiest/Mastodon or Tegan and Sara 12"...not something almost 5 years old now.

Totally not what it means.

However, I agree that unless there's something different about the RSD version (which we don't know yet one way or the other, though typically there is something different), that it is pretty lame to simply stamp a RSD logo on something that's currently available.

What is this backlash to last year's Fleetwood Mac release that you speak of? All I saw was immense critical acclaim, and it is the only RSD item I couldn't get my hands on that I still wish I could have to this day.

A lot of stores were surprised that something that constantly in their used bin would get repressed and there was a thread on the Steve Hoffman forums about it. BTW--it is still available:

I suppose I can understand the initial confusion. I still don't get why they ALSO made a 33 rpm version, when a perfectly good one can be had for a quarter. Unfortunately, that's all the local stores near me got.

The 45 RPM version is a no-brainer though. A very well recorded pop album, with sonics to kill for. There is no substitute for something like that. I was under the impression from the SH forums that it had sold out and would not be repressed - glad that isn't the case. I'll probably put an order through for it right now.

Not gonna lie, I'll probably look for that Michael Buble 7". I (not my wife) purchased his Christmas album and loved it.

Way to own it, dude. For real, every release that sort of appeals to women, everyone jumps on the "for my girl" excuse. Personally I find his music so inoffensive it offends me.

Re: Stadium Arcadium: The last thing this world needs is more copies of an awful bloated double album by a white boy funk band.

Dang, didn't know Mastodon was releasing two split 7"s. They sound pretty interesting, though. Look for me to drop $17 on two 7"s this April. i'm a moron.

Go on...

Wish I could... I'll have to wait until someone else leaks the info or it's announced. Just following orders.

You're right, you shouldn't tell people you're reissuing Cursive's Burst & Bloom on vinyl and that there will be an RSD-exclusive color. It's best to sit on that information for as long as possible. ;)
