Doesn't seem to translate to today when half the appeal of your joke is just that you are swearing on stage. Not saying I've seen a ton of his stuff though. That was just one older standup I watched and was thoroughly disappointed with. If you want to direct me to what you think his funniest skits are, I'll give it another try. Anything prior to the 90s is okay, but from then on he only got more sardonic, sharp, and hyper critical of society.
