  1. May as well post this here also. I did check out the Bullmoose linked shared...no dice on it.

I was going to post this on the sales thread but it'd get lost in the stacks surely. I'm looking for a copy of the 'Until The Light Takes Us' doc on either the 2xDVD or Blu-ray. Factory 25 (who's the sellers and distro) of it shows they have it but in reality they don't. Amazon is no help.

Anyone have a line of where I can get a copy?

It's out of print, but we happen to have a used DVD in stock. It just came in and who knows when we will see it again. Good luck.

  2. Did anyone else pre-order that Arrows 7" from Bull Moose? I know the album got a major delay and was wondering if anyone had any word about whether or not the single is still coming out. I haven't seen it for pre-order anywhere but Bull Moose.

The 7" has been pushed back again. It supposedly is still coming but we don't have a firm release date yet. One assumes that it will be timed to help promote the album. Sorry we don't know more at this time.

  3. All very laudable, but how about making it possible for non-US residents to get it too?

We are taking a break from shipping outside the US. We found that there were just way too much fraud and lost packages. We probably will try again at some point.

I have a couple of questions. Is the orange vinyl only part of the "Department Of Record Stores" thing, or is the black one too? When you say "don't have to fight over copies" are you just referring to the limited one? Also, do you know by any chance who is doing the actual reissue?

    Thanks

The black will be available everywhere later, so it's unlikely that there will be problems with it either. ORG is handling all the details for us. They do a nice job, if you're not familiar with them. Thanks for asking.

  4. It's saying "Rare item"... has anyone ordered something with that note & actually get it?

That message means our system thinks it is in print but we think we're going to have trouble getting our hands on it. Often, that's OK, but probably not in this case.

Amazon just started saying out of stock out of nowhere. When amazon no longer has stock on an item they remove any notice from amazon and only the third party sellers are appearing. So this shouldn't be appearing at all on any of these sites. Something triggered this being relisted at multiple sites.

That's a good guess. It was updated in August. I checked this morning b/c orders have been coming in, most likely from this thread. Universal shows it as an active title, so who knows what's up. We won't charge anybody unless we can get them. Let's hope that it's a quiet repressing and that those orders will be filled.

  5. "We will get as many of these as we can. It's possible that we won't get enough for everyone. Of course we will fill orders in the order we receive them. We will not charge your credit card until right before we ship your order."

    this scares me a bit

Me too. Here's the deal. As you know, there will be only 900, assuming that there are no pressing problems. I assume that this run will sell out immediately and the label need to be able to spread them fairly between all stores that want them for their customers. I'm not sure if we have too many yellow preorders yet, but the way things are going, we probably will soon.

Black seems to be fine so far. If all you care about is the music, order the black.

  6. Just curious about items that are "Rare Item - We will try to get it for you"? Does that mean it still counts toward the $25 and free shipping? Also will the RSD item ship separately or until the other item is able to ship. Thanks!

It counts towards the $25 free shipping. We ship as things come available, so you'll get your RSD stuff now and we will ship everything else as it comes in or is released (pre-orders.)

  7. Any word if you have the Banks Remixes? You can't even click on the page for the album so I'm assuming it's a no, just gotta check, though.

Thanks for everything Bull Moose!  Here's to hoping the website holds up this morning.  :)

We changed the way the popular sale pages are built, so we don't expect the problems we had on Cyber Monday. People have been hovering all day and it's been OK so far. I guess we will know in a few minutes.

We do have some. The page was turned off. I just fixed it Thanks for the heads up!   http://www.bullmoose.com/p/16264235

  8. Just a tip, our remaining RSD stock will go on sale at noon EDT today. That's in about 15 minutes.

I put that Scott Pilgrim note up there a few minutes ago b/c I found a distributor that had some left. We will restock the RSD titles we can so hopefully people will get lucky later this week if we don't come through today.

We also are going to discount certain pre-orders today through Wednesday. Those pre-orders count towards the $25 free shipping threshhold even though they will ship after the RSD stuff. That sale is active now, but we are still adding titles to it.

    Have at it!

  9. Can I ask a favor from everyone? We need your help in dealing with the eBay scumbags.

All those pre-orders you see violate eBay's TOS. Pre-sales are prohibited unless the seller can guarantee that he/she can ship the item. We all know that is untrue.

We would love to see what happens if a bunch of people report those items. Here's how to report them.

    1. Log in
    2. Find the item
    3. Scroll down and click on "Report item" on the right.
    4. Select Listing Practices/Inappropriate Seller Terms/Presale
    5. Click send report

They can relist everything tomorrow, but if they get enough complaints, maybe eBay will ding them. It's also possible that some flippers will decide it isn't worth it. Thanks in advance to everyone who helps out. Maybe we can get eBay to wake up!

Also, just to keep you up to speed on a couple other things, we figured out how to get contact info on some of these sellers. Several stores were permanently banned this week. Stores that operate near individuals with a large number of pre orders have been notified who to watch for. I think I will get to meet one of them in person tomorrow.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  10. The Bull Moose video said it was a different master than the less recent release, I guess, but he didn't really say anything other than the listener would have to decide which he liked more... which I know isn't that helpful, haha.

I'll move over into possibly too much info. Once again Varese Sarabande's RSD titles were mastered by Steve Massie and pressed by Erika Records. They generally do a nice job.

The most notable difference between this pressing of Odessey & Oracle and Varese Sarabande's CD is that the CD used a mono mix of "This Will Be Our Year." The LP is stereo all the way through. The mono mix on the CD contains horn overdubs that are not on the LP. Without the horns, you can hear a little more of the soft organ near the end.

Disclaimer: I'm a little reluctant to get too specific about the mastering differences because I am currently using the phono circuit of my old Proton receiver instead of a dedicated phono stage. It introduces some distortion and noise. However, the difference between the LP and the CD is what you kind of expect. The LP is warmer while the CD is crisper. The LP is a lot more "in your face" than the CD, which suggests that a reasonable amount of compression was applied. It certainly isn't brickwalled; I'd say it was a tasteful artistic choice made by an experienced engineer. Whatever Massie did brings out the vocal in a way that some people will like. They are a different listening experience - both satisfying, just different. It's a pretty reserved album anyway, so Massie's approach will definitely be preferred by some listeners.

For those who aren't familiar with Odessey & Oracle, it is an essential purchase for fans of 60s British Psych. If you love Sgt. Pepper, Piper at The Gates of Dawn, and Are You Experienced?, this music belongs in your collection.

People who like this stuff should also keep their eyes out for the other Zombies title, which has a bit more of a Britsh Invasion sound. The Yardbirds Little Games also is being reissued (stereo, if I remember correctly.) The Idle Race (Jeff Lynne) sounds way more like The Zombies than ELO. July is darker psych from '67 or '68. There also is a Rough Guide to Psychedelic Bolivia and one other international psych comp whose name I forget.

A harder title to find will be Yardbirds/Sounds I Heard, which contains outtakes and live stuff. It's all taken from the Glipmses box set from 2012, so if you have that, the only reasons you need this are if you are a Yardbirds completist or wodl prefer to have them on vinyl.

  11. So this guy on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/sch/shoeskate05/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=) literally has almost 100 RSD items up for "preorder" for insane prices.

I'd really love Bull Moose's opinion about this kind of stuff.

It used to drive me nuts, but after doing everything we can think of doing, I have learned to put it in perspective.

Only considering the official releases, somewhere around 900,000 thousand records will be released in the U.S. Only a few tenths of a percent of those records will be resold at an unreasonable price.

As I am sure many of you know, most of those records will be available at reasonable prices on record stores' websites a few days after RSD.

  12. Are there some notable/worthwhile jazz releases this year? I'm not familiar with very many jazz artists, so I probably skimmed passed names without even noticing.

In addition to the two titles other people mentioned, Resonance Records is releasing two at 10 inches by West Montgomery and a record by Charles Lloyd. All three are totally unreleased.

Jack Bruce might be playing jazz these days. I don't really know.

Also the soundtrack to the Pink Panther is technically jazz.

  13. Just wanted to give a shout out to user bull moose for always giving us the best insight possible

Hey,. Thanks very much. I already received a few review copies and that the stuff I see is just fantastic. The Taang! box that someone mentioned is just fantastic. All 10 of those singles have paper sleeves inside the picture sleeves. There's also a great book with lots of photos that people who were part of the punk scene in Boston in the 80s and 90s will recognize. There's a picture of The Rat, The Channel, the Middle East upstairs and maybe The Causeway; I am not sure about that. Anyway, it's a great great piece. Everything about it is done right. It even has a CD of all the music. I'm going to give it a lot of time in my video because I think that people who collect records but won't buy it because they're not into hardcore will really enjoy seeing it.

Same goes for The Folk Box. Again, people who aren't into the 60s folk revival might not buy it but they will admire how well it was done. The cover has a wood veneer laminate. The book is awesome and replicates the look of the notes that were included in folk and blues albums back then. It's a real work of art.

  14. What happens if I actually order and pay?

Anyway. I wonder what this will sell for anyway. At 1 million I can see a label making money on this. At 10, not really. Keep in mind this is being sold with the assumption that it will be distributed, and all applicable rights. The price really isn't that crazy, just getting a lot of attention since they're offering it so openly and making such a big production of it.

We're just kidding, of course. We wouldn't charge anybody's credit card.

Actually, if someone really wanted to give us $10 million, we'd figure out a way to get it, even if we had to pay $9.9 million to get it!

  15. Random question that's been bothering me since it was announced: What's the appeal of MGMT's Oracular Spectacular being re-released on "180 gram vinyl"? Hasn't it ALWAYS been available that way... and at $16.99 vs. the RSD price of $24.99?

I mean, I get Congratulations... That's been OOP for a couple years. But if OS went OOP, it was *only* in the last couple months. Seems like they could've simply done another run, but instead chose to hype this as an RSD release... and jack the price in the process.

I think you answered your own question.

Just an FYI, Oracular Spectacular always was a $22.98 list price. I just checked the original sales info we received from Sony in 2008 and it doesn't say anything about it being 180 gram vinyl. That makes me suspect it was 120 gram, which makes sense for an artist's first release at the very beginning of the "vinyl resurgance." I think the 180 gram vinyl is worth the extra $2, at least to those who don't own it yet.

  16. bingo. summer in maine is my all time favorite, but holy shit its still going to rain and you have to deal with 8 months of beyond brutal cold to get there and back again.

edit: bullmoose does rule though, i snagged some of my earlier records like saturday night wrist during the summer in maine at a bullmoose!

I guess it's all how you look at it. Last week while walking my dog in the woods at sunrise right after a snowstorm, I was amazed by how lucky I am to live in a such a beautiful place.

I'm torn about the One Direction release. The record snob in me wants to scoff, but there's also the side of me that is happy a new generation/demographic will be introduced to the magic of independent record shops. We all started somewhere, hell I know every word to the first Backstreet Boys album. But its hard to discover all the goodness of non-top 40 music when you're only exposed to the marketing of iTunes and commercial music mega retailers. There's just something about walking into a good record store that everyone should experience. I can't count the amount of times where I have lived out the "Beta Band scene" from High Fidelity- where something was playing on the speakers in the store and I asked what it was and then immediately bought the record. For every hundred teeny-boppers that come out on RSD just to have the latest One Direction single to frame on their wall, there will be a few that fall in love with record stores and I think I am ok with that.

That's the right attitude. We definitely are going big tent here. We want to build the habit but we also want to honor how much One Direction fans love that band. They really are loyal fans and we all know how special we feel when we get a rare record or other piece of memorabilia.

They might outgrow 1D some day them just like we outgrew some of the artists we liked when we were younger. They might not bother to redownload their digital files when they get a new phone, but I bet that they will hang onto those records. And of course, when they are ready for something else, they will know where to go.
