ntslash got a reaction from scottheisel in Selling records and the new tax law
$50 sale price = $50 in revenue
$31 original purchase price + $10.50 seller fees + $5 shipping costs + $2 packaging + $4.50 mileage write-off for trip to post office = $53 expense
Looks like a $3 loss to me!

ntslash got a reaction from whoa in [PO Soon] TOOL - Fear Inoculum 5x12" w/etching ULTRA-DELUXE BOX SET AT THE LOW LOW PRICE of $810...cuz TOOL hates their fans and someone needs to maintain Maynard's Vineyards
Remember when a bunch of people were panicking about this release and saying that half of preorders weren't going to be filled? Looks like there will be plenty of Tool to go around. People who placed 8 orders might want to start canceling some of them now.

ntslash got a reaction from Adam10647 in All-encompassing NINE INCH NAILS Thread: Reissues, New Stuff, Soundtracks, Kitchen Sink
I sold my original TDS and will never listen to my KG copy again. The DE is my clear favorite.
The fact that there is debate about this suggests all pressings are at least quality and that is comes down to your preference and probably your setup. For me, the DE is as good as it gets.
But the WT one isn't even a question. I sold my original the moment I heard the DE. I haven't seen any claims that the original is better.

I would assume mine is for the US. I'll see if I can figure it out.

ntslash reacted to booms528 in PO: Arcade Fire - WE (Out May 6th)
My ranking would be Funeral > Suburbs >>> Neon Bible > Everything Now >>> Reflektor
This song definitely sounds more like the first 3 albums which is SUPER encouraging and somewhat unexpected.

ntslash got a reaction from poweredbytrust in PO: NIGHT SINS - Violet Age LP (Kyle Kimball of NOTHING - FFO: Dark Wave, Synth Pop)
Wait, if this is the guy from Nothing, then shouldn't this just be room noise?

ntslash got a reaction from achillesstand7 in SOLD OUT Now: Nothing - Don't Look for Light in Tunnels (A Decade of Nothing)
Yeah, but it's room noise on vinyl, so it sounds better than normal room noise!

A couple record shop owners I know both said 20k+ pressing number. I have no idea how they got that info.
Given that the Tool preorder announcement page specifically links to Amazon, I'm guessing that Amazon will have plenty.

No one is buying this for the music. It's a collectible.

20,000 units for an RSD First, so this shouldn't be too hard to get!

Here is a simple test: if you are selling to make a profit, report as business income. If you are selling to clear shelf space for more new records, report as personal income.
If you wait in line for 6 hours at RSD and buy 25 titles to flip for a 50% profit, you can make a clear business case.
If you sold a copy of Rumors that you listened to 75 times over the years for $20 so you could buy something else for your collection, then that's not business income and you probably shouldn't write off the $8 you spent on the record.
