Woof, this is reallll cringe-worthy. When I read an interview with a record collector, I want to hear from people with walls/rooms full of records, people with huge collections of jazz/funk/northern soul/bootlegs/77-79 punk/Beatles/novelty records/SOMETHING INTERESTING. Not the same Brand New/Blink 182/Four Year Strong combos you can see in anyone's Deadformat tradelist. I get the idea of encouraging interaction with your reading audience, but either these aren't screened finely enough or this blog doesn't attract people with big collections. Someone who still uses an Ion/has never gone to a record store/considers an August Burns Red record a "white whale" because it went out of print 6 months ago is not worth interviewing about their record collection.

20 dollar LPs are one thing but they routinely had ones closer or above 30 dollars. That last Big Business LP was over 30 if I remember correctly. There's no disputing that they put out great records with great packaging, but their prices certainly turned off many (obviously as they are going out of business). People obviously spoke with their wallets. Even now the price on DAMAGED records on their website is way too high.
I'll be sad ultimately that they are gone but truthfully they lost me a few years ago when I couldn't afford to buy their records anymore. I used to blindly buy anything they put out because odds were I'd love it.

They had great taste in music and I loved that label for a very long time until they priced me right out of being a customer. A 4 song 12" single for 20 - 25 dollars before shipping was just wallet rape and insulting. Clearly they priced a lot of people out of being customers with those prices and the fact they are going out of business. Yeah they had great packaging and everything but so does other labels selling their releases an average of 5 - 10 dollars cheaper.

I love records, so I'm interested in reading other people's thoughts on why they collect. If I know someone who is also a nerd than I annoy them because I can only talk about it with them. The guy interviewed is a newer collector and chances are he won't still be collecting records in 10 years. And really, if all your 'white whales' are records that were released in the past ten years, it shows a short sightedness in appreciation of music.

If you're more concerned about the value of a record with or without signatures than the music and art, then you're doing it wrong.

I swear, if some of you came to look at my collection from over the years you'd shit yourselves. I mean, when I was 18-19, I wasn't playing frisbee with all my stuff but I also wasn't implementing 12 step plans to protect corners on a piece of cardboard. Lighten up a little and quit shitting yourself over dust, dings to covers and wear in general. I had a dude once get mad about wear to the plastic bag I shipped the LP in. People are way overboard on this stuff.
Don't buy the record you see in the photo if it pains you to take a static brush to your vinyl.

Those are completely fair prices the store offered you.
Put your records on ebay next time and enjoy the extra 4 bucks you will make after fees. Better than letting an evil record store make that profit.
