  1. I am screening the latest Doc I produced on Sharon Jones. Here is a link. http://www.musicboxtheatre.com/collections/doc10-a-festival-of-documentary-gems If anyone VC is interested and might go hit me up. I'll promise a drink on me afterwards.
  2. I caved but on the economic side with the black box. Tossed in Dangerous Days and 404. This will sell but there is plenty to go around. I caved on the box in thinking about how nice all the BM boxes have been.
  3. I can't seem to pull the trigger on the box when there is a nice 2xLP option. Looking forward to this.
  4. RSD has become the predictor of future half-off bins at your local. This year is such a garbage dump. Frankie Goes To Hollywood fans are totally stoked but once again we are reminded that your independent label is now backlogged thanks to a picture disc featuring the mug of that guy from Disturbed. Seriously, to get the stuff that will sell the locals will get saddled with so much total junk it's amazing - it's becoming corporate welfare for major labels to have some genius run their finger through the back catalogue, announce it as an RSD Exclusive repress then force the local to take 15 copies to get the stuff that will sell. My local now has two full bins of past RSD releases going back a few years. I'd like that Lush set but at /2000 I think I can sit this one out and find it online which is exactly the attitude RSD is supposed to inspire against.
  5. I haven't been to Chicago since I toured (briefly) with Bon Jovi. Yeah, that did happen. But I'm coming back 3/31-4/2 and I'm stoked. I have a film playing at The Music Box Theater on 4/1 and am looking to see some sights along the way. Any new record shops to be aware of? Of course I can hit Reckless but in this here vinyl explosion dealy there must be some new and awesome stops for the enthusiast to take in.
  6. Well, considering there is consistently some jerk ripping people off through this site I wouldn't be shocked if Paypal reported it as such.
  7. Haven't been on in a week and checked into this thread first. What a crybaby. Not the best choice for a return visit. (The trump image is pretty great though)
  8. Sorry if others posted about Axl. This one made me really sad. I wanted to post one more story about him from PWInsider - it is a great read actually. I realize a lot of folks on here might not have ever seen him wrestle. It's worth five minutes: http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=99542
  9. RIP to Axl Rotten This guy seemed to work every podunk ECW show I ever attended. He was a road warrior and I always enjoyed the show he put on live. http://www.wwe.com/inside/axl-rotten-passes-away?sf20392970=1
  10. He was such a talent as both an athlete and personality. His transition to triathlon shows so much about his level of physicality. The hardest thing in the world to ask for is help. And the hardest thing for those who don't suffer from depression is to understand when someone is asking for that help. In these moments I like to remind people to keep their ears and hearts open to those around them. Because I can tell you from experience that asking for help is so damn hard the first time, it's pretty much impossible to do a second. My thoughts are with him and his family and all those suffering from mental disorders. I'd like to also just toss out something I learned a while back. Those in psychology, who deal with suicide in particular, say the person "Died by Suicide" instead of "Committing Suicide". It's a subtle but important acknowledgment to the underlying mental disorder that leads to the action - it is as much a cause of death as it is an act. I've mulled through this a ton. When my friend died by suicide in August I kept saying "committed" in anger but my goodness - the pain you must be in to do this when being a parent. I lean back often upon the love of my son and that bond in my worst moments and I can see the pure beauty - to be so sick, in so much pain to not feel that has to be excruciating.
  11. Oddly this is an improvement over the old search function.
  12. I depart for Finland tomorrow. I have 2.5 days there and it involves work. I'm praying there is a shop to hit up while there.
  13. I'm coming. Staying film focused however with a twist of drinking.
  14. I have to be in Helsinki for three days a week from now. I hope to come home with a better understanding of Black Metal.
  15. You all did a fine job. I don't need a donation. Pass it on to someone that might have stretched their budget to help out. See you all next year.
  16. I don't know what Anamolisa is about. Cripes. Love Kaufman. I need to watch it again.
  17. They are named for a former NBA player. I kind of wondered by there wasn't a band named this already. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_B._Free
  18. His NYC home is across the street from my office - he used to have a space in this building too. It's a crowd there. The people are cool but the news trucks are making it a bit more of a scene than needed. In 2004 a co-worker and I were going to take a ride up to the Bronx on a project. He was distracted for a moment while pulling away from the curb in front of the office and didn't see a jaywalker trying to cut in front of our car. I screamed at the top of my lungs - closest I've been personally to running someone over. The person was face down on our hood with both arms splayed palms down. When the insanely frightened person looked up it was Bowie. We almost killed him on his walk to his office. He was pure Gentleman, accepted our rattled apology and walked off without a bit of anger expressed. We debated if we'd have to leave the country or what if that accident had happened - I figured yes. The man was a genius as a personality and performer. Pushed Rock n Roll and sexuality into realms it had barely touched previously. I'll be spinning Ziggy all night.
  19. The two posts above are both pretty much what we are all thinking in a nutshell.
  20. This would be the second AC release since the Old Canes Kickstarter was blown off. I suggested they just send OC backers that last Appleseed record and be done but that would have been too logical.
  21. Dan is a good dude. I am not in favor of raffles but this guy by no means deserves to be shit on by a bunch of bullshit wanna-be emo thugs. He's done more for his local scene, giving space and time to bands, and charity than the vast majority of the people on this board.
  22. Nothing will happen. This reminds me of the time in 1996 my car was broken into. A friend had taken a photo of my bare ass because you know, I was 19. I took the photo once developed and stashed it in my glovebox. The morning I came to find my car broken into the stereo was gone and everything was gone through but that photo was propped up nicely on the drivers side seat. I was so broke and pissed but still laughed my head off. I put it back in the glovebox and forgot about it until my Dad borrowed my car six months later and was pulled over by a cop only to find it tucked into the same envelope with my registration. Awesome conversation came later. What's the moral? I don't know but you reminded me of this story so why the hell not. Oh, don't sweat it too much and make your friend buy you a new drive.
