My father passed away recently and while he didn’t have many worldly possessions he did have A LOT of vinyl records which he treasured. He owned his own business as a night club disc jockey during the 80’s and 90’s and some of my earliest memories are being with him in the DJ booth memorized by the turntable light illuminating the spinning decks.
An entire wall of his home was dedicated to the floor to ceiling shelves of vinyl. Pictured here is just a small sampling (maybe 5%) of what he had that I was able to go through so far and take home (I have more pics and video). He spun anything from The KLF to Bowie to Fleetwood Mac and everything in between. He had a binder with every record catalogued and numbered and put a sticker on each record with the corresponding catalog number. They are well worn, none near mint. They are worn because this was his livelihood and passion. Him and my mom would load up their car with heavy crates and head to each new gig.
I’m glad to inherit his collection and along with hundreds of vinyl records I also received his two turntables, both Technics SL-1200MK2 in mint condition. I am a bit overwhelmed with the sheer magnitude of the collection, there are many I just can’t keep due to space. I’d like to bring them all to my house and invite friends and local vinyl enthusiasts over to peruse. I am not trying to make money and will keep all of the vinyl that I hold dear. I didn’t have a very close relationship with my father in the last years of his life for many complicated reasons but there is always one thing I knew he wanted, for me to take and care for his vinyl collection. I will honor that and treasure the copies I get to keep and make sure the rest go into great hands. I wanted to share this with a community which would appreciate this share.

Crazy to think that as little as a month ago there was very little interest in this record, and copies were very easy and cheap to get.  Hype train!

I'd say to him "hey, you're pretty smart. Good on you." I don't know why people care so much about what other people do with the things they own. I mean, the record store might have paid the original owner 10 bucks for that record for all anyone knows. This happens way more at record stores / trade-in places than you would think. They will take advantage. A lot of people own stuff that is worth money and don't even know it because people are stupid. Point is - that record store isn't necessarily any less unscrupulous than someone who potentially spent 150 bucks on it to flip somewhere else. Once you take ownership of something, you can do whatever you want with it.

$43 sounds about right for original cost + shipping + PayPal fees.  Some stores were selling it for $29.99 but my local shop was at $34.99 + tax.

Guys, it looks cooler on the shelf with all you radiohead albums together and uniform. Sound quality or what the artist prefers doesn't matter.

I'm being sarcastic but I know what he means. Kid A and Amnesiac always stood apart from their other releases to me anyway so I just keep them with my other 10"... also like Tommy said "they're cool as fuck"

I do wish he would do a clean version so I can play it when my kids are home and I'm making dinner and want to listen to it.

There's a place in Australia that has orms stuff for sale. They are waiting on a shipment of three sided tape box sets. Would anyone want to order one with me to save on international shipping? Depending on the price that is

I truly understand when people don't like Death Grips, and don't even try to convince them otherwise or explain why I like them.  These guys are the punk of rap.

And while Zack Hill may be the reason a lot of people check them out, that definitely wasn't the case for me.  I didn't even know who he was until I listened to Death Grips.  And I couldn't care less about his work outside of Death Grips.

I'll take the hit for posting this.....

These ARE NOT variants to be worried about!  Everybody has a collector mentality and its dumb...

Since the beginning albums have had to be repressed due to demand, and/or just the sheer amount they pressed had to be done in waves.

Look at any other Bowie album though out his career...granted some may be better quality than others when you take into account the questionable 'remasters' they push out now, or old budget line presses... but are people really so concerned whether their copy of Hunky Dory  came out in March of '71 or five months later in August of '71 or February of '72?  No, because they are virtually indistinguishable save maybe some 'number' somewhere on it.

Just like Blackstar now, if you give a fuck whether you're copy was printed 7 months ago, or 3 weeks ago with differences you'd have to search over the entire release with a magnifying glass and use scale to find. You suck.

This album will be in print for some time now, which is good... that matters, not a couple numbers on the cover or record label!

My opened copy is in a MOFI sleeve, as I do with every LP I purchase after cleaning. I placed the booklet in the front (mostly black), and slid the MofI inside the clear sleeve and put it in the back where the booklet was.
