I know I'm not going to be able to swing going to this and I'm bummed.
However, Black Train Jack is the bigger attraction for to this show now that I know they're playing too. Don't get me wrong, Judge is one of my favorite hardcore bands, but 2,000 Guido's trying to out-hard each other on the dance floor makes me not care, I'm sure there will be a video of it that will pop up online. ...but man, BTJ playing....fuck.

in defense of SRC, the licensing process is very cloudy, when i first started dealing with majors there was a period where i was told their lawyers were clearing everything.. naively i thought this meant all parties involved. I did run into a situation where an album i had licensed no longer was owned by the label, and had i not had the foresight to contact the band involved before pressing it would have been a huge financial disaster. But also the music business is a business, if a band didn't want their musics presentation to be out of their hands, they shouldn't have signed over the rights. Being on a major label is essentially work for hire, if i create something at my job the company has full ownership of that and can do whatever they want with it, and i won't have a message board up in arms about it right?

Amen to this, selling records is a business.

Some people have a weird perception that legality and morality have any sort of consistent relationship.

When I find something I want, on the last day I set the highest amount I will pay.

Glad they are resealing them. You know because that makes a big difference.

There seems to be a funny morality around these parts when it comes to that sort of thing.
Like, a lot of people will be okay with downloading a band's entire catalogue (violating both copyrights), but get up In arms about something like this.
Anybody here who is decrying this (possibly shady?) licensing deal, but who have only downloaded the albums in question, go stand in a corner and think about what you've done.

I find it funny that Hum finds OG copies 20 years after SRC decides to do a reissue and it sells like hot cakes. They than are upset that they were not made aware of this money making scheme, as they would have liked a piece of the pie, but for the last 20 years never considered doing it themselves.
 
SRC certainly has done some weird stuff, but as Juan said, if the band doesnt own the record than who is to blame?

Who owns the rights to the record itself? The band or the label? If the label (I don't know if it's RCA or Sony) owns the rights to the record, can't they pretty much do as they please with it without getting the band's input or feedback?
 
I am seriously asking as I don't know fully how it all works.

It's been said before, but white whale ≠ records readily available for steep prices.  It's like your whale is out there and ready to be slayed on a daily basis.  You just don't want to man up and buy a bigger harpoon.  Doesn't count.

I have a tape player in my car and occasionally buy tapes for that sole purpose. I'm not into collecting tapes, sometimes it's just nostalgic fun to crack open a tape and throw it into my car's tape deck. I still have all my old Black Flag, Descendents, Screeching Weasel, etc. tapes that I listen to regularly in my car.

First album was good. Second was ok. Last two have been progressively worse. Single from this is horrible
