It's better for your credit score if you pay it off gradually as long as you're making decent sized payments. Payment history is very important as far as credit scores go. If you have multiple credit cards, always pay off the one with the highest interest first, rather than worrying about balance.

Pooping is important too. Don't get roids like I did. Remember: never fight the turd. Just like reeling in a bluefin tuna, work him until he's tired. Then when he's weak, pop him on out.

    TMV is talented as fuck.

when you say "TMV is overated" all i hear is "i don't understand/appreciate complicated music. it just sounds like noise to me".

everyone in that band is amazing at what they do, and their albums are always interesting, at least from a musicians perspective.

i'm trying to not sound like a pretentious here, but i probably sound like one anyway.

Well, there's alot of so wade through, but I'd check out omars bandcamp with these couple of releases:Xenophanes- this is probably one of the best releases he has. Him and his girlfriend at the time (Ximena) sing together on this. It's all in Spanish but it's absolutely beautiful. Ojo al cristo de plata and Oremos Are both excellent tracks.
Cienca de los inutiles- probably the most stripped down record you'll ever hear from this man..Just him on guitar, an upright bass, and Ximena singing. Also in Spanish, it really shows how well he can arrange a "bare-bones" album.
And finally, the BEST for last. CRYPTOMNESIA- this shit right here nigga? The fucking bees knees for Volta fans. This record boasts an awesome line up of talent. He recruited Zach hill for drums and Cedric for vocals..it slays anything after Frances, I don't care how over the top Thomas pridgen can play. I like to think of it as the missing link between relationship of command and deloused. I love the whole album, but here are some good tracks anyway:
    Half kleptos
    Puny humans
    Shake is for 8th graders
    Elderly pair beaten with hammer
    I'll shut up now.

Good for them.  It was going to sell out regardless of whether it was priced at $10 or $30.  I would rather these two bands get more cash than flippers.

    ^Seriously.

Kudos to David for coming in here to defend his band / reputation when he didn't have to, that alone will get me to shut up about whatever it was I was saying earlier.  Also, it's pretty lame to try to attack the guy because you think the album "sounds bad" or don't like the music.  Criticizing the price point of the LP is one thing, but trying to call him out because you don't like the music is a completely dick move, as well as an invalid point, as it's just your opinion.  It's just best kept to yourself when it realistically adds nothing to the discussion other than to make you look like a childish asshole.  I mean, what do you expect a guy's response to be to something like, "hey man, your album sounds shitty, can you tell me what's up with that?"

Also I really just wanted to come in here to rehash the age-old argument that just because a drummer uses triggers does not automatically make them a better / worse drummer.  Anyone who tries to argue this doesn't fully understand how triggers are supposed to be used either in a recorded or live setting.  The fact that triggers may have been used live one time doesn't make it a "joke."   To me it's the equivalent of saying any vocalist that uses autotune or pitch correction can't hit any notes or is a bad singer.  It's just not true.

Okay, the A Change Of Pace story.

I reviewed their first album for AP way back in 2005. Here it is:

I gave it a 1 out of 5, only because we didn't give zeroes. It is really a terrible album.

So after that review comes out, I start getting harassed by a few random people on AOL Instant Messenger, all of whom I assumed were in some way connected with the ACOP camp. It wasn't that big of a deal, only because they were as bad at insults as they were at writing songs. Additionally, their drummer also sent me a message (either via email or MySpace, can't remember) that literally just said, "Why do you hate us?" I remember laughing heartily at that.

Fast-forward a few months to Warped Tour 2005. I was at the Cleveland date, working the AP booth and taking photos for altpress.com. When I came back to the booth after shooting HorrorPops or somebody, a fellow worker told me that some people came by the booth asking if I was there. Being the Warped Tour, I figured it was someone I knew—you never know who might be out on Warped on any given summer, between bands, techs, merch people, etc. So I hung around the booth for a little bit, and a few minutes later, these two guys come walking by the booth with a megaphone and a sign (that is obscured from my vision by our tent). Whatever they're saying is muffled, but I definitely make out my name, so I walk out of the booth to see what is going on. When they see that, these two dudes just start booking it as fast as they can go from our tent. I run after them and eventually catch up with them at a bottleneck in the crowd. They turn around, and I look up at the sign—it says, "A CHANGE OF PACE — 6:20 @ SMARTPUNK STAGE."

I look at them and say, "Lemme guess: You're [insert AIM screennames here]."

They look at me and snort and say, "Huh-huh, yeah."

Then we just sort of stand there for 10 seconds or so, me waiting for the synapses in their brains to fire as to at least continue the conversation. When that doesn't happen, I say, "So, are we done here? Can I go back to work?"

As I turn around to walk away, one of them says, "Huh-huh, yeah, why don't you go find a treadmill on the way back!"

    (Get it? Because I'm overweight.)

I snap back around and say, "That's funny! Your band still sucks," and walk away. The end.

If you don't understand his post, you obviously don't have the "collector" gene.  And that's okay.  I have lots of friends who don't get why I feel the need to collect certain things.  My limited experience in the VC has given me the impression that a high percentage of posters here share this trait.  But there are also plenty, such as yourself, who do not.

Look, if anyone here is willing to be honest with themselves, they'll admit there's a lot more that goes into buying records than just the listening experience.  Spinning records is the least convenient way to listen to music (well, unless someone is still messing with an old reel-to-reel tape player).  Folks buying records in the digital age are buying for lots of different reasons: a need for ritual, a need to collect (which can border on OCD), superiority complexes (you should hear my $800 cartridge...), etc.  I started collecting before I even had a turntable because I liked the larger format (for the art work) and liked that it was kind of a "niche" product.  I framed and hung several of my favorite albums and loved being able to enjoy them as art.  Then I discovered colored vinyl, crazy splatter vinyl, etc and I thought (and still think) that this really added to the uniqueness of the medium.  Add in the limited quantities of most releases and the collector in me is a junkie for this stuff.  I do enjoy sitting down and spinning a record but, if I'm being honest, the collecting part is probably more rewarding for me.  So yeah, I could see myself listening to Bouncing Souls "Comet" on my iPod while admiring my new tri-color variant.  But I'll admit I've got issues...
