MayCauseDeath
I have been selling my collection on here, eBay and discogs, and usually avoid over sea sales. However, I have 3 people purchasing from abroad and am curious to hear if anyone has any horror stories or advice to shipping across the great blue sea. Thanks everyone. clerk3745
As long as they're aware of shipping costs, you should be fine. Thats what I like about discogs, you're dealing with the buyer, discogs has very little to do with it once they decide to buy it.
Tardcore
what could possibly go wrong? rule of thumb: do not ship anything overseas unless you are comfortable with not receiving any $$ and never seeing your item again.
itsgoodtobefree
Make sure you ship it with a tracking number and maybe even signature confirmation. Registered mail is more expensive but it's worth it in case the buyer claims they didn't receive it and you have proof they signed for it. shenanigans
I've done a bunch of overseas/international shipping and never had an issue. I've always shipped just regular first class, unless the person has little/no feedback.
iron666monkey
I have never had an issue, but I also avoid shipping to places like Russia, Italy, and a few other locations that have notoriously bad postal systems. Klefki
Dominic_
I just got one from Germany faster than just USPS media mail, I think shipping was $
lexicondevil
I don't sell overseas unless they pay for expedited and tracked shipping. Even then I generally don't like to take the risk.
vinyl21
I would avoid shipping to Italy or Russia as they have serious issues in the mailing department. No problems with UK, Germany, Switzerland, and the rest.
dreamover
I've been avoiding US shipping lately. Nothing but problems. It's all a crapshoot. Mars
AllFuzzedOut
Just don't do it. Paypal will never back a seller unless the seller can prove delivery, i.e. tracking. If there is any dispute ever, you will never win unless you have tracking. This includes the like extra $15 you paid to ship it. Also, if something arrives "not as desribed", you are screwed. They will no doubt try to get you to send like half of what they paid back, and you will do it because it will be cheaper than having them ship it back and then refunding them original cost + int'l shipping to them + int'l shipping to have it sent back. There is a way for you to shut them out on discogs, which you must do. Because even if you write "US Buyers Only", some pissant (person on eBay) will buy it anyway, and then basically say "I was able to do it. If you cancel this transaction I'll give your 100% feedback a negative." And then, shocker, he was not pleased with how the cover pocket "seemed warped", and then ask you to refund him half (of $60 item plus whatever he paid eBay for that int'l drop ship service), including the shipping to his country that you never wanted to send it to in the first place. Yea, I ship to the great 50 states and that's it.
PRINCE
Just be careful with who you deal with, I've sold thousands of orders internationally on discogs and have had a few hiccups, if it's of value use tracking all the way and as others have said be careful of certain countries, luckily you can pick and choose which countries you can ship to in the ship settings, here is a list of countries that have been deemed 'safe' to me: Canada, France, Germany, UK, Italy, Spain, Japan, Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, Austria, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand & Australia, but that's about it, not worth the chance on any others really. Mourning Wood
Mark the customs form to say it's a gift, used record, value $10. The buyer will love you and, by saving the buyer an import tax or duty, the record will not get lost or arrive damaged. Funny how that works. vinyl addict
The only country I refuse to ship to is Italy. They are known for a horrible postal service and lots of stolen/missing packages.
laughingstalk
After a sale you're weary of, overseas or otherwise, withdraw the money from your Paypal account. Worse case is your account gets shut down, but you won't lose the money.
ddoherty
France kind of sucked "lost" a record was on the hook for. But a record I sent to Germany actually came back to me when the guy didn't pick it up from customs. It's a roll of the dice. I try and stay local unless it's someone on here. MrMystery
Shit happens. One cannot sum up a whole country to one dishonnest guy. Feedbacks (eventhough less and less people leave some on cogs or egay) are useful for that. We all had bad luck on 1or 2 never received records... nickmitch
As long as the buyer is aware that shipping is expensive and takes a while (2-3 weeks usually; longer this time of year) then hopefully you shouldn't have an issue. Every record I have purchased from overseas has arrived to me (although one took over two months from Italy), you just need to be cautious of the buyer and make sure they have positive buying feedback I guess.
