thebiglebowski
No one wants to see a Detroit/St Louis World Series. If Detroit wins the WS the city doesn't even have the money to throw them a parade, even if Bing had a good night at Greektown, all the cars would get jacked during the parade while it rolls down Gratiot. I do. Revenge for 2006. We have a $140 million payroll. We won't skimp on the parade. It will just be paid for by a private benefactor, not the city. thebiglebowski
How many times did they call the pitch Victor hit a double on a high curve? 3? It was on the inside corner at the knees. He just his a good pitch.

Or at the very minimum buy the Buffalo Wild Wings on Randolph a broom. That place needs a good sweep.

Guest
started playing halo with the game on in the background. just couldn't take it anymore. looked up and saw 2 men on as pedroia singled and realized what was coming. i just knew. everyone had to know. david fucking ortiz. and when that bullpen cop raised his arms in celebration, it brought me right back to david's "our fuckin' city" speech and provided that existential moment that tells me that this team is going all the fucking way. finally, pedroia's sliding play in the 2nd was in.cred.i.ble. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
its okay, detroit still has far superior starting pitching, they'll win this series.
BuzzersonKillwell
Lebowski or any Tigers fans, how was the bullpen in the regular season? I know the closer role was up in the air for a bit, but was the rest solid? The Tigers starters are filthy, it has always seemed like getting to the bullpen ASAP was the best chance. Though, fun as it was, you can't expect miracles like last night all series.
thebiglebowski
Veras is solid but not unhittable. 3 ERA seems about right. Benoit is a really good closer. Not Mo or Kimbrel good, but in the next tier. He's gone through spurts as a Tiger where he's struggled with the long ball but not this year. 1 run lead should be fine, 2 or 3 and I am really confident. Smyly is a good lefty but he deals with the same stuff that every lefty reliever deals with -- whether to use him as a true 8th inning setup guy or as a lefty specialist against the guys like Ortiz. Either way, he's a really good weapon. Phil Coke is terrible. Alburqurque has wicked stuff but no control. I think of him as the dude that you never pitch when you are up 1 or 2 because he is likely to put guys on. But if you are in a tie game with the bases loaded, no outs, I bring him in. Might blow it but he also might K the side and that is what you need. Or I would pitch him with a 3-4 run lead and yank him if he gives up a couple hits/walks. Alvarez and Porcello are just steady long guys in the playoffs. Think that is the playoff squad. Bullpen is probably the weakest part of this team (assuming some of these struggling bats like k-Jax and Chubs Fielder can get it straight) but it's not a liability. They SHOULD be able to get to effing innings of work without giving up 5 runs.
GradedOnACurve
Missed the game, but it looks like Leyland missed the chance to bring in Coke. Wouldn't that be THE situation to bring in the situational lefty? AMIRITE?

In the post game conference Leyland even said he didn't want to bring him in because it's been a while since he pitched.

In the post game conference Leyland even said he didn't want to bring him in because it's been a while since he pitched. Why have him on the roster then? I mean I get it you don't want to "throw him in the fire" but any close game in the late innings in the playoffs is exactly that. At least if he got burned, it'd make sense. Not aruging because I'm not rooting for anyone in particular, just thought it was mistake.
