catalinacaper
The funny thing is, for the most part Cobb County is a well off, rapidly growing suburb. It's not really Atlanta at all.
BuzzersonKillwell
Don't get me wrong, I love all three guys I just feel like that rotation needs a veteran presence. I can see that. Malholm should be solid if they re-sign him. In terms of maybe bringing in a veteran for the benefit of the younger players, who is out there for FA. Hudson would have been the choice from that category, who they going to sign? Josh Johnson? Dan Haren?
catalinacaper
There isn't anyone, which is why the Hudson thing makes no sense. In 2 years or so I would say Minor and Teheran are veteran enough to carry the load at the top of the order... But not next season.
catalinacaper
Especially since they wouldn't have had to pay him much more than half of what the Giants offered to keep him.
BuzzersonKillwell
Let's agree to agree on this one.
chamb117
i would've liked to see them bring hudson back too without the expectations of him being a #1, and then they could get maholm out of the rotation. he's simply not good. 1.41 WHIP? maybe you can just trade him to the angels, they'll probably dump a decent reliever for him in other news, the reds continue to be bonkers: http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/42392/reds-think-joey-votto-walks-too-much
thebiglebowski
They almost botched the decision with Aroldis but did the right thing in the end by leaving him in the bullpen. Don't mess with a good thing.

Don't want to see kinsler go but with profar there to take his place it wouldn't be a problem but like you said holy shit
cwhitmuzik
Tigers easily win this deal depending on what the exact terms of it are. Kinsler will likely age better and they're probably similarly valued at this point, but Fielder costs like 150m more.
lemongoat
In the immediate future I would take Prince, but that contract is awful. Between Prince and Andrus, ick
thebiglebowski
Kinsler's contract goes 16, 16, 14, 11, 10 for a total owed of 67 million. WAY less committed than prince. Effing love it...assuming they didn't have to anything crazy like pick up an extra 50 million or a ton of prospects.
sjb2k1
damn that is quite the pickup for the tigers kinsler's one of the guys i'd pick to replace robbie if he keeps with this 10 year/$300 mil farce
drewberinger
I like the deal for both teams. Prince is going to fucking mash in that Arlington ballpark. I think Detroit's offense gets a little worse in the short term but the flexibility it offers to resign Scherzer and keep Miggy healthier by playing first is great for them. thebiglebowski
Wonder if they sign Jhonny Peralta and stick him at third (assuming Miggy moves back to first).
sjb2k1
i'd have to guess they'd move miggs to first with this kinda move.
thebiglebowski
i'd have to guess they'd move miggs to first with this kinda move. Kinda. If they were willing to move him there to begin with, you couldn't completely rule out the possibility that they replace Prince with a relatively big FA bat -- someone like Napoli or Choo. Victor Martinez is capable of playing first. I believe they will move Miggy back, though.
thebiglebowski
We all knew the Prince deal was probably going to be bad in 5 or 6 years. No one really expected it to sour in 2 years. The idea was "do whatever to win a championship right now" so if Prince can't get a single postseason RBI...time to pack his bags. I think regardless of what else happens, this gives them the financial freedom to make Miggy a tiger for life, which is the best outcome of thus entire trade. drewberinger
JeffPassan Final deal: Detroit trades Prince Fielder + $30M to Texas for Ian Kinsler. TEX gets Prince for 7/$138M, DET gets Kinsler for 4/$62M + $30M. 11/20/13, 8:24 PM
crime
That deal is good news for Sox fans. Apparently Texas were really high on signing Napoli, but now that they have Fielder hopefully Nap can work something out to stay in Boston. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Miguel Cabrera was at 337/434/604 for a 174 wRC+ in 2010 & 2011 before Prince and at 338/417/620 for a 178 wRC+ in 2012 & 2013 with Prince.

Honestly no one is going to lock him down until he's 41 years old.
catalinacaper
The "Yankee" Complex just kills me. Is Cano a very good 2nd basemen? Yes. Is he the BEST PLAYER IN THE HISTORY OF THE MLB? Lol. You would think that if he was truly confident that he is going to sustain his 2010-2012 stats for the next ten years then he wouldn't be worried about a ridiculous 10 year deal. He could get 3-4 years at $30 mil no problem.
