drabley
I think it's pretty commonly known that assembling an All-Star team is a sure way to fall short. Tell that to Pittsburgh and Chicago.
Snaggle Von Swift
I think Tampa Bay will be a sleeper team out of the East.
mcm1610
I think it's pretty commonly known that assembling an All-Star team is a sure way to fall short. Tell that to Pittsburgh and Chicago. Chicago wasn't a team of amazing players, it was more a group with a solid core, which they drafted. They brought Hossa in, yes. Pittsburgh won the Bettman lottery and drafted that team, too. Neither case is like trying to assemble a team out of all-star free agents and trades. How'd that work for Montreal? How does it always work for the Rangers? drabley
^^ An Allstar team is an allstar team whether it is acquired by draft or free agency. Irrelevant.
mcm1610
No, I don't agree. There's building an amazing team, then there's assembling an all-star team. Plucking big names from elsewhere in the league is COMPLETELY different then drafting and home-growing a cup-winning team.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
All i can say is I can't wait to see the newly acquired capital DJ king shut maxim talbotts mouth... That is if he ever wants to actually throw down instead of talk. Nothing less than a cup is expected in DC this season. booyahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Snaggle Von Swift
well, hope the Penguins enjoy Aaron Asham.. i'm bummed the Flyers couldn't make room for him, he is a cheap workhorse that will defend any one of his teammates against anyone. suburbanargyle
Asham has some moves too...just when you think he doesn't have any skill he'll pull out the most random dangle. I think it's a great pickup.

forgeagain
The Blackhawks were almost a completely homegrown team. The only impact guys who weren't from the Hawks system or acquired via trade before they were good (Sharp, Versteeg, for example) were Campbell, Hossa, Madden, and Kopecky. Of those 4, I'd say only 2 deserve the title of "all-star." The Blackhawks did it the right way and won while the window was open. The Cup window is now closed a bit more, but will be opening up again in a year or two. Toronto has the deepest team in the league on D because they have 8 Defensemen signed AVERAGING $3.5MM each. Hell, their top 6 guys (not including Lebda at $1.45MM and Gunnarsson at $800K) average $4.25MM each. That's completely retarded. Your bottom pairing shouldn't be getting $3MM and $3.5MM each. Meanwhile, their 11 forwards currently signed make a total of $24.3MM (average of about $2.2MM). Awful cap management. They need some offense. You can't play 8 Defensemen at a time. thesupervillain
Hey, we used Ian White at forward a few times, and Byfuglien was signed as a defenseman. Maybe we can turn Luke Schenn into a 90 point centre.
kirbypuckett
I like the Asham move, but we have a ton of 3rd liners. Dump Godard plz.
rkfoster8
And in other news, Willie Mitchell signed with the Kings. As a Caps fan I was hoping we'd pick him up. Oh well...

The capitals dont have any cap space, how could they sign him? You're kidding right? All 4 teams had a reasonable shot at signing him. Everyone offered 1 year apparently except the Kings. The Sharks had more of a shot than us at getting him imo and they only have $3million in cap space while we have $5million. Also I'm going to go ahead and assume you're a Penguins fan. The Penguins have less cap space than us. http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=30&salary_cap_mil=59&salary_cap_thou=

I realize that may have not been the case and I may have jumped the gun, but that's sports talk for you.

swankymodes
Looks like Bill Guerin has been spotted skating with some Flyers. Probably trying to earn a tryout with the team. Same with Todd Fedoruk and Justin Williams was around too. I wouldn't mind seeing Guerin come to town for year, in a 3rd line kind of role. Flyers still need to find a left wing to play with Richards.

mcm1610
It's in no one's best interests for this sort of nonsensical contract shit to go on, so the league NEEDS to be harsh with it.
