I posted this at a Sabres site, but people are saying the NHL won't be able to prove that NJ and Kovy were circumventing the cap. Here's some "comparable" contracts.

Hossa:

7.9, 7.9, 7.9, 7.9, 7.9, 7.9, 7.9, 4, 1, 1, 1, 1 (@ 42 years old)

Zetterberg:

7.4, 7.75, 7.75, 7.75, 7.5, 7.5, 7.5, 7.5, 7.0, 3.35, 1.0, 1.0 (@ 40 years old)

Franzen:

5.5, 5, 5.25, 5.25, 5, 5, 5, 3.5, 2, 1, 1 (@ 40 years old)

Pronger:

7.6, 7.6, 7.2, 7, 4, .525, .525 (@ 42 years old)

Kovy:

6, 6, 11.5, 11.5, 11.5, 11.5, 11.5, 10.5, 8.5, 6.5, 3.5, .750, .550, .550, .550, .550, .550 (@44 years old)

Even Hossa's looks at least borderline legitimate. There's a quote in an old article from when the NHL "investigated" the Hossa and Pronger contracts that $1 million is average for a 40+ year old player. That Kovy contract is just a giant bitchslap to everyone. They aren't in the same league of ridiculousness.

Turco is a douche bag.

he openly said he really wanted to come to Philly, but they couldn't get a deal done.

The Flyers offered him 3 years, $6 million..

that deal wasn't good enough, but he took 1 year at $1.3 million?

maybe he was lying

If I was Turco, I'd only take a 1 year deal too. He needs a year to prove himself after some miserable seasons in Dallas. If it works out, he can likely get considerably more than what Philly was offering.

Luongo has a 12 year deal, paid as: 6.716, 6.714, 6.714, 6.714, 6.714, 6.714, 6.714, 3.382, 1.618, 1.000, 1.000 - so it's 5.333 cap hit per season

Savard has a 7 year deal, paid as: 7.000, 7.000, 6.500, 5.000, 1.500, 0.525, 0.525 - so it's a 4.007 cap hit per season

the extensions kicked in on July 1st, and the league has 2 months to void the contract. I highly doubt they would on either, they're probably just claiming to investigate just to seem fair, but nothing will come of it.

there has been talks about Pronger's contract to, but his is a 35+, so he's fine.

Hossa already played a year under his contract. No chance in hell does that one get canceled. Both parties already began to perform under the deal. The NHL would get sued for sure.

Single game tickets for the Blackhawks went on sale this morning. Nobody I've talked to was able to get anything other than standing room only for ANY game this season. I'm going to make a killing on these season tickets.
