batman
Came across this deal earlier today and thought I would pass it along. I went a little crazy, but a pretty sweet deal. Looking at about $20 for blu-ray and $15 for DVDs, which is a steal for Criterion releases.http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Criterion-Collection-Blu-ray-Disc-DVD-Special-Editions/379003202/ Edited October 17, 2016 by batman
circuit bored records
Wow, thanks for the heads up! Criterions seriously never go on sale. I'm thinking about picking up Rushmore and Antichrist blu rays myself. My first instinct was to see if they had the royal tenenbaums pre order for 50% off, but it was only $5 off an already inflated 39.99 price tag. Bastards! Bastards! What is the preorder, exactly? I have a copy of Tenenbaums already from the Criterion Collection, is it any different? May use this to pick up Rushmore and Bottlerocket. Pretty much have all the other Criterion releases I'm interested in, have held off on those two because I haven't been able to find them for a reasonable price anywhere yet. Even with 50% off, it's a bit tough to take the plunge.
circuit bored records
^pretty sure you have the DVD, the blu ray doesn't come out til August
batman
i finally picked up "being john malkovich" cheapest retail price i had seen was $34.
circuit bored records
Nice man, good deal! Just a heads up best buy has all criterion blu rays 29.99 in store and online with free shipping. Hard to tell some online because of the missing pictures but most stores have a separate criterion blu ray section now.
adamlikesmusic
^pretty sure you have the DVD, the blu ray doesn't come out til August 14 I do, couldn't find it at all on the B&N site, so I wasn't sure. I'm not too picky with the formats, personally.
Rip
You guys do know that you can get a lot of the older Criterion movies on Amazon used for $15 or less? I mean... that's assuming you don't mind buying used things like me. And sometimes you can get lucky. For example, I recently ordered a used copy of Antichrist from Amazon for $16 an it arrived in perfect condition.
Emo Revival
They run this sale like 3-4 times a year and I always end up buying way to much. Managed to grab The Blob, and Robinson Coursoe on Mars from my local B&N. I've probably got 20-25 criterions now and haven't paid full price for any of them

(my mom is weird and is already trying to get her christmas shopping done...)
kidamnesiac
Pretty good deal. I've been toying with the idea of upgrading my Wes Anderson Criterion DVD collection to BluRay. Anyone have any of the Wes Anderson BluRays? Hows the transfer compare to the DVD?
chunkrock
I have the bottle rocket bluray which looks great. I imagine the transfer wouldn't be quite as nice as Rushmore or Royal Tennenbaums but those had much bigger budgets and looked better in general. Rip
I really would love to be all over this sale, but I just find it so hard to spend over $20 on a DVD. And yeah, I know that Criterion Collection's are worth it, and if I had the money I'd buy all of them because I love the features they include. But I think I'll just continue to go the Amazon route for the time being. The one's I wouldn't mind grabbing right now though would be: - Eyes Without A Face - Europa - The Element Of Crime - Repulsion - Peeping Tom - Man Bites Dog - Diabolique - The Seventh Seal - The Night Of The Hunter
donttchange
Can't believe no one has mentioned Brazil. Movie rules and the 3 disc version has some of the best special features I've seen for any movie. Def worth the 30$ paid full price for it like 6 years ago, still pop it in every once in awhile. 000000
went to my B&N to grab Rushmore and Darjeeling Limited and apparently my B&N doesn't sell dvds or blurays anymore. wtfffff.

batman
yup, i grabbed 5 for now: the life aquatic (one of my fav wes anderson films, been dying for it on blu) persona (bergman) a brief history of time (doc about stephen hawking) breaking the waves (anxious to watch more stuff from lars von trier) insomnia (original norwegian film that christopher nolan adapted)
Rip
Grabbing at least 8 or 10 when I get paid in the next couple days. Will report back with what I get.
hippielauryn
Damn, this is such a great deal! Hopefully the ones I want don't sell out until I get back from vacation.
batman
Damn, this is such a great deal! Hopefully the ones I want don't sell out until I get back from vacation. from what i've seen in the past they don't sell out, but will instead be listed as backordered. as long as you get the order in during the sale, you'll be good. this deal is also good in-store if your local B&N sells movies. hippielauryn
Bladewillisisdead
50% off Criterion sale is always the worst time of year. Without fail RIGHT before it starts I'll have an emergency I need to drop all my money on. Need Fantastic Mr Fox, Life Aquatic, and least a dozen others. Twistedshabazz
This is tempting. I bought a bunch off someone selling locally recently for a great price and still have not had the time to watch them. Criterion is a great but very expensive hobby. I had owned a ton but widdle down to 80, i know not much of a widdle, that i actually want. I used to just own some to own them, then never watched them or had stuff i would truely never watch again.
whose_thare
Usually I take a 10 or 15% off coupon to the store and they let it go through. Really depends on who is working. It's worth trying. I think I'm getting... Breaking The Waves Metropolitan Life Aquatic Gimme Shelter
openupyourskull
Thanks for the heads up on this! I picked up The Royal Tenenbaums in store today.
knifeparty
I just got all 6 of Wes Anderson's flicks that are Criterion Collection versions. I didn't need the $120 anyways. Damn me and my lack of willpower. billya
