Flying is fine, it's the airport crap. I should have gotten some xanax or something, but it's too late now. I'm sure I'll be ok, unless I get stuck in Chicago for 8 hours again.

Last time I flew I was the ONE person bumped from an oversold flight. I had to wait over 12 hours for the next flight...after already waiting through a 5 hour layover. I was livid and also I had to figure out the shuttle to the hotel and then the shuttle back in the morning. It was a nightmare and I missed a DEP show AND and ETID show because of the clusterfuck. Haven't seen either of them since.

I should add, this was in Chicago

I literally had to have money Western Union'd to me so I could eat. It was a fucking nightmare.

Damn, hopefully I don't have that problem. I was delayed due to storms and mechanical stuff last time, so hopefully this time it will be smooth sailing. Only rain Sunday is here in Akron, Chicago and Omaha look ok.

All listening to Nicole Dollanganger right now is a bad idea. She's great if you want to hate yourself. Listen to "Angels of Porn" and hate life.

I've never flown...never

I love flying more than I like going other places. The ritual of going to the airport and flying is more fun than actually absorbing my destination. I recognize that I'm in the minority.

Hotels beat everything though. I would live in a hotel if I could.

Edit: I should add that I travel like twice a year

I'm scared shitless of heights, but it's really cool looking out the window the entire flight and watching things gets smaller and larger. Flying is cool, it's just the airport annoyance that sucks. Arriving early, going through the TSA stuff, sitting around, boarding, sitting on the tarmac, the nastiness that is a plane, finding your connection at a huge airport (or sprinting through O'hare like I did last time) is not fun. Taking off is awesome, I love the suddenly speed burst.

Get some xanax. Last time I flew I had panic attacks the whole god damn time. It was awful. Of course that was almost 9 years ago. My girlfriend wants to go to Ireland for our next vacation...I'm gonna be blowing xanax lines off the tray table while we're over the ocean for sure.

I have a crazy fear of heights and the ocean freaks me the fuck out.

I mean...or just eat the Xanax?

I like both the airport and the airplane. Can't tell you why, maybe it's just because of how comfortable and familiar it is. I have a small but building playlist of songs that, if I close my eyes, make me feel like I'm looking down on the city from a plane at night.

Next at month my dad and I are flying out to check out the Standord campus so I'm gonna beef up the playlist and enjoy the flight experience while I can for real instead of just closing my eyes. Hoping it's as magical as I'm imagining it will be!

I loaded my mp3 player up with stuff, so hopefully the music will distract me. I should be fine once I get there though, it's just the initial stress that is bothering me. Hopefully this time I can eat though, last time I was too stressed to eat the day I left and the day I returned. It was annoying once I got there/home and the stress was gone, because I was starving.

Also morning all. Work, then off to my nephew's 3rd birthday. Hot as hell today too, which is always annoying. It's already over 80F, and it's only 730. Still should be a good day to ignore the flight stress of tomorrow. Hopefully I can find my gates this afternoon, after I check in, so I'm ready. Already packed, so I'm ready to go.

Morning all

Glad to hear you got some rest finally. Is there a scientific reason we lose the ability to sleep well as we get older? Is it simply because we carry more on our minds and that interferes with the brain's ability to rest?

Not sure... I've had this insomnia for more than 25 years. I have also hated sleep and eating forever.  They are nuisances.

Taking off is horrifying. Well, the speed is fun but as soon as the wheels leave the ground...NOPE

I love the landing though. I even like the little bounce after the wheels initially touch down.

I loved the speed gain when taking off and the only thing that really made me white knuckle at all was when the tail end levels off and does that "shake", but after that I'm fine and it feels like sitting in a lightly moving room to me. That's saying a lot for a guy who won't ride carnival/fair/amusement park rides and hates heights

Eating is starting to be a nuisance to me as well... Especially when something I've eaten in the past few days now has me stuck in a chair with Gout in my right foot. Feels like a tank rolled over my big toe!

I'm with you on all of this. Flying is probably one of my favorite ways to travel, and while some disadvantages suck (looking at you, crying babies on 5 hour red-eyes) I enjoy exploring airports and cities with my layover time, and even just meeting people I sit next to on flights.

That being said, while O'Hare is typically a clusterfuck, at least it isn't boring and outdated like LaGuardia or LAX. Yeesh.

(Also - Stanford? Damn, kid.)
