aflycon
Sure, if you actually PLAY records. Yeah, what kind of amateur does that? Don't you know you're destroying the value of your records and won't be able to flip them at a gross profit later? (Only a still-obscene, but not-quite-gross profit.) mpitts
Guest
The RSD Pinback release......looks nice! Yes! It has finay happened. Between this and BtS, I couldn't think of records I wanted to be pressed more than those two.
ratbrain
Songs: Ohia – Journey On: Collected Singles 7" Box Set – 1850 pressed I can never tell when a pressing is high or low but 1850 for this seems like not a lot. Hope it's not too hard to come by.
oojavaguru
FYI...for fans of the Built to Spill release, 4500 copies on Gold vinyl will be in most stores. 500 copies on Green vinyl will be sent to RSD stores in the Pacific Northwest (ID, WA, OR) and available there. So if you want both versions, find some friends in Portland, Seattle or Boise...heh.

Before he died it would've been pretty easy but know that Molina is more popular then ever, which is sad, iit might be hard to get.
kk-downing
Yes! It has finay happened. Between this and BtS, I couldn't think of records I wanted to be pressed more than those two. Do we know who is putting this out? Seems like all the listings I see just mention that it's happening.

deletedunknown
Songs: Ohia – Journey On: Collected Singles 7" Box Set – 1850 pressed Definitely my primary objective. Glad the few other things that catch my eye this year look like they are actually priced reasonably, for the most part.
scottheisel
Info on Of Montreal's two RSD releases: STREAM: "Jigsaw Puzzle" - https://soundcloud.com/polyvinyl-records/of-montreal-jigsaw-puzzle STREAM: Satanic Panic In the Attic - https://soundcloud.com/polyvinyl-records/sets/of-montreal-satanic-panic-in On their latest full-length Lousy with Sylvianbriar, of Montreal adopted a new songwriting approach (writing retreat in San Francisco), a different recording method (direct to 24-track tape machine), and a fresh group of musicians. Inspired by Dylan, the Stones, Neil Young, and more, Paste declared the record "[a] stunning re-imagining of Barnes' songwriting prowess." Today the band is sharing "Jigsaw Puzzle," a track recorded during the same sessions that produced Lousy with Sylvianbriar. To be released as a limited edition 7" on Record Store Day, "Jigsaw Puzzle" will be backed alternate version of Lousy cut "Triumph of Disintegration." In addition to the release of the "Jigsaw Puzzle" 7", the band will also be reissuing their record Satanic Panic In the Attic on Record Store Day. Featuring favorites such as "Disconnect the Dots," "Lysergic Bliss," and "Chrissy Kiss the Corpse," of Montreal's breakthrough album Satanic Panic in the Attic marked a slight departure from the band's previous sound due to influences ranging from 1970's Afro beat to 80's New Wave. To celebrate this beloved record's 10-year anniversary, Satanic Panic in the Attic has been re-mastered for vinyl and is being pressed on 180-gram yellow and light blue vinyl with a second disc, featuring seven additional tracks recorded during the same era. This deluxe double LP re-issue comes packaged in a gatefold jacket that restores the interior artwork to its original full-color design. sacredheart
Thanks for the nice words. I'm not sure if I understand your question, so I will give two answers. I hope I answer the right one. Let me know if I don't and I will try again. If your think that the prices in general are rising, I hadn't noticed much of that. I can think of one label that pushed its prices up last year. I haven't seen their prices this year so I don't know if they brought them back down. We will order less of their stuff this year if it is too expensive so they will correct their pricing next year. I definitely have seen experimentation over the years. Those 7" box sets a few Black Fridays ago were expensive to produce and didn't sell as we hoped. They were created in response to collectors' requests for higher quality releases, but clearly that was not exactly what people wanted, or at least they didn't think a really cool box was worth an extra $10-15. It was worth a try. Maybe they would have caught on. Looking back on that, I think that certain kinds of fans wanted better mastering and pressing on the records they like. Of course that adds to the cost, but those fans are willing to pay for the sound they want. We probably could go on and on about this. If your question was actually about distributors that sell to stores that don't buy direct marking things up too much, I am not an expert. However, some of the stores in two of the three record store coalitions that run RSD rely on those distributors. The people who run those coalitions would take action if their members were being abused. I also suspect that non-coalition stores for whom selling new music is an important part of their business probably know which distributors will treat them best around RSD, because they treat them best all year round. Let me know if I'm off base and I'll give it another shot. Chris I'd say you pretty much mailed it. On your point about what fans want (better mastering, packaging, etc) I like to see things that were never put out before, IE The Pogues with Strummer singing, All Shook Down, and not reissues of items that can be found for a few bucks like Fleetwood Macs Rumors. Alice in Chains
Dave Matthews Band just announced Live Trax 4 for RSD, with an etched logo of a firedancer on side H. Somewhat disappointed they didn't do anything for Under the Table and Dreaming, seeing that it is its 20 year anniversary booms528
kamalatapes
So what's up with Joy Division- An Ideal for Living EP Is this going to be a 12"? Because the EP is still available as a 7" I think it's pressed red and blue
mrewest
If the DMB box is out of 2000 I hope it's not $90+ like the Black Friday ones. I'd do $60 or so because of the few big songs on Vol 4 that isn't on my Vol 2 box, but I dunno about any more than that.
mindless
http://www.bullmoose.com/p/951660/pinback-pinback Is it possible that is only 12 bucks? I'd be a little skeptical especially since one release I've got my eye on is listed at $8 there while another store I've been in contact with said it was going to be $20. atticus
Also if SRP on that Dave box is $74.99 my bet is Criminal in Atlanta will have it for $97 (+/- 2). They gouge the shit out of the ltd releases. Which means Cake will probably clock in around $150.
