New Alcest, Hippotraktor, and now Ulcerate. 2024 is shaping up to be a great year.

thetrackt got a reaction from RadDonut in PO [Sold out]: Cloudkicker - Solitude (and box set)
Ben sent me the LP in July and it’s my favorite thing he’s done so far. I used to give him flak for the instru-metal thing back in Discovery days but each album since has been a bit of an evolution and gradual leveling up. Solitude is sort of in my mind an apex of his sound to this point. I told him man - I know you used to do this as sort of a hobby but... with Solitude it’s really like dude you could get signed with how dialed in these tunes are. Anyway, stoked for people to hear it!

Yeah, mine arrived today from KRM. I got the Black, Bone, & Maroon, and yup, that's what it is.

thetrackt reacted to Sad Heart in PO: Green Day- Saviors (1/19/24)
I honestly like the new album. It’s better than I thought it would be. It’s not amazing by any means (I still hate the opener and will probably always skip it), but it’s fun and their best since AI. Also got a ticket for the Dookie / AI show. A little expensive, but with a gift card I couldn’t pass up hearing Dookie in full.

Nah I been listening to Green Day since the 90s these tunes are pretty good.

Based solely on listens, here's my top 10 for 2023-released metal. Not a bad year by any means.

thetrackt reacted to bjorn in Extreme Metal Releases and Pre-orders
Liturgy (surprisingly because this is the first album of theirs that really worked for me) and Horrendous are my clear favorites this year. Also loved:
Tar Pond (criminally overlooked, and easily the best doom album other than Bell Witch)
Bell Witch
Fabricant
Agriculture
Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean
Godflesh
Oxbow (not metal, but also oddly overlooked, their best yet IMO)
Godflesh
Vestigio
Ex Everything
Gridlink
KEN Mode
Cicada the Burrower
Entropia (unfortunately not as good as their last two, but still amazing)
Sunrot

Dropped the new Wayfarer on the turntable just now, already through side A, and it's fucking GOOD. Solid AotY candidate for me.

What is up with that album title
Also curious what happened with Epitaph, especially considering Dan's last album was also on Epitaph

thetrackt reacted to MCDELTAT in (PO Now) Code Orange - The Above (Out September 29th)
I just listened all the way through last night and get what you mean. This is a weird album and furthest from punch your face hardcore stuff. It goes heavy but also has a lot of sung songs. TBH a few of the later songs kinda reminded me of Adventures, at least vocally.

100% I was blown away by this package. This record shreds too. I feel like this band is overlooked and it may not be everyone’s cup of tea – but they are damn good at what they do.

For $26 this record is proof other bands and labels are ripping us off. It's a gatefold, partially glossy for certain parts of the art, came with a massive heavyweight book, a poster, and the variant I bought looks so good. The sound is very clear with no pops or skips. Meanwhile we're getting bare bones for $25-35 from others.
I haven't listened to the digital and I can tell this is going to take a few listens for me to get a solid opinion. I have to ask, does it sound like it was recorded, mixed and mastered well digitally? Because the music on the vinyl is not impressive. The mix is not dynamic and it's kind of rough, but maybe that's what they're going for.

thetrackt reacted to cautionthieves in PO: Baroness - Stone (LP out Sept, 15 2023)
Had my 'Shine' copy arrive on release day and honestly, they've nailed every facet of it.
The variant, artwork, layout and signed insert are all spot on.
Really enjoying the album so far and feel like it's only going to get better the more I listen to it.

thetrackt reacted to TheGhostOfRandySavage in An album you forgot how good it was:
Sometimes I'll pull a random album or use the discogs app to randomly select something from my collection to listen to, and I'll think, "Well fuck. This album/artist is awesome. Why aren't I listening to it more often?"
Tonight I pulled out Cosmo's Factory and was like, "Why am I not just constantly listening to CCR?"
Any albums that have done that for you lately?

thetrackt reacted to deer in MODERN LOVE Label ( Andy Stott, Demdike Stare, Millie & Andrea, The Stranger, Rainer Veil, etc.)
Snagged the represses a couple days back—crossing my fingers the recent repress campaign leads to a new album sometime this year.
Also would love to see a new Demdike Stare LP soon.

I think as long as you catch the issue within 7 days of delivery they're cool about it. Anything after that they stick to their lame ass policy. I'm glad you haven't had many issues with them. Surface noise is definitely a problem that's why I skipped the newer Friday the 13th presses they've released. Made me realize I don't actually need them

Finally threw down for the Godzilla box. By far the most I've ever spent for a box set. Hope it arrives minty fresh.

thetrackt got a reaction from ethanpricington in PO: Chat Pile - god's country
I’m so glad I randomly ordered this a few months ago. Flenser sent a silkscreened slip covered version of this on some sexy wax.
It is getting so much press! Funny that a noise rock band is sort of a current indie darling.
That said, it’s a really good record and all the attention is deserved. I basically can’t stop listening to it either!
