moodist reacted to big_chuck in UK HMV Fathers Day Exclusives
There's a joke to be made about HMV doing an exclusive version of 'Bandwagonesque', right?

moodist reacted to jeromium in Knowing When to Give Up Being a Completionist/Variant Collector?
I've never collected variants. As someone mentioned already, I'd rather have 10 different albums than 10 copies of the same album. When I collected CDs, I did like to complete the discography of my favorite artists, but I limited that to official studio albums, occasionally including live ones. Then I realized I was at the point of just ripping albums to my computer for convenient listening on my MP3 player and computer, and making copies of the CDs to keep in the car. Essentially I was just ripping the CD, checking out the artwork, and putting it on the shelf. CD shopping was becoming less and less fun as it was easier to find things I wanted on Amazon, eBay, etc. It became a money pit and I started downloading more. Now that I'm buying vinyl, I'm trying to be a lot more selective of what I buy. And I never need more than one copy of anything.

You posted the same exact question in an already existing thread for this, and then you made a new topic asking the same thing?

No need to start a new thread for this.

moodist got a reaction from Mourning Wood in PO now: Pavement - The Secret History Vol. 1 (rarities comp)
Nope. Not enough extra/unreleased material to warrant it.
I think it's rated as well as it's ever gonna get. That album still leaves a bad taste. Godrich, being the It Producer of the Day, sucked the fun out of that record and treated the rest of the band like nobodies.
This new release seems pretty superfluous apart from those who need to have certain things on vinyl. Kinda disappointing really.

When it comes to record labels, they'll keep pressing up copies to meet demand. Once demand is met and everybody who currently wants a copy has a copy, then whatever remains in the warehouse is it for the time being. This is the way it works for most labels, indie or other. It could be years or decades before something is repressed, and a lot of that has to do with accumulated demand (or the frustrated tears of RHP fans).
With this resurgence of vinyl, it seems every serious artist out there with an OOP back catalogue is getting the fancy vinyl treatment, but that doesn't mean it's going to stay in print forever. No label wants a warehouse full of product that is nothing more than a shrine to great vinyl fad of two-thousand-and-whatever.

moodist got a reaction from Eliminator Jr. in Sun Kil Moon - Universal Themes (PO Later This Year?)
He lost me when his songs began to sound like finger exercises on spanish guitar. Up until then it was all fine and dandy. Pulled me back in with Perils which is up there with his best work. Benji bordered on banal and embarrassing but all the fanfare on that record made me feel like I was in the minority. Fair to say the outlook for this one isn't good.

Listening to these lyrics one would think he could put a new album out each month.

I'm getting progressively pissed at these record stores that have their own flipper accounts on the side. Not to mention those who see the rrp and go "fuck that".
