So who wants to make a 3rd Tool thread so I can actually follow one that might be helpful when the LP  gets released?

been thinking about this for the past year or so. Between moving all the time and the insane prices, it's hard to keep up with it all. I've also been rebuilding my CD collection for dirt cheap since I sold most of them years ago. I basically cut back to getting things that are either A. mastered well or B. super important to me. One day maybe the industry will wise up and release dynamic masters digitally ($50 box set each I'm sure) but I'm not interested in waiting for that. "Hi res" digital audio 24/96 etc is more of a scam than digital vinyl masters (except the HDTracks release of Deftone's Koi No Yokan!). At the end of the day, being a music collector is suffering.

The big hipster vinyl resurgence is also cool because regular old folks are interested in music again for the first time since Guitar Hero 2 came out.

Alright I'll spill the beans, Tool is teaming up with Record Store Day to do a Fear Inoculum 3" edition. The entire album on 85 3" records, a minute of the album on each 3". The b-sides are all etched to form a puzzle, when put together you get the classic wrench dick logo. It's going to retail 349.99 and comes with a custom 3" crosley record player that has a touch screen 5" 4k tv that has the entire 6th season of Seinfeld and can play Sega Saturn games. It even has a built in Beats By Dre pill. A must for collectors and quite possibly one of the biggest crossovers in vinyl history.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Tool. The lyrics are extremely complex and without a solid grasp of the Fibonacci sequence most of the words will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Tool's uncommon time signatures which is deftly woven into their characterization - Maynard's personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realize that they're not just music- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Tool truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Maynard's famous song "Hooker With A Penis, " which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Maynard James Keenan's genius unfolds itself on their record players. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have an Ænima tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

I'll be very interested to see what kind of vinyl packages they'll do with this new album. I managed to get a signed copy of Lateralus from Toolarmy back in the day, maybe they will do something similar. Although these days I don't have the time to sit online and refresh and refresh until the second they go on sale. I remember the copies of signed Lateralus sold out in less than 60 seconds.

Then the record never arrived... I launched an investigation with the post office. The post office offered to pay for a replacement, bit tough with that record though! Simply not available. A couple of months later, Australia Post searched the mailman's house and found rooms and rooms of undelivered parcels. He got in a LOT of trouble. And I got my record!

Hopefully they will also go backwards with dynamic range compression and give us a fully dynamic mastering like Undertow and AEnima and not the atrocious mess that was the mastering found on the new APC record. "Sounds shittier the louder you turn it" is not the motto I want on my Tool purchases.

If indeed the remasters arrive and the first two albums are both AAA done with one of today's best all analogue lacquer cutters and pressed at Optimal or RTI etc., we will get no contest the definitive editions of these albums (as far as fans of stereo mixes go)

I really like the songs themselves for the most part. The ugliness of the mix only really gets to me on some tracks. Overall I think it’s pretty solid and the criticism here is overblown in my opinion. To each their own obviously.
